From the outside, Mr Max does not look like much. In my experience, these are some of the best restaurants! It’s a little hole in the wall, tucked in the corner of a small plaza. On any given day, there is a 1-2 hour wait, so I suggest making a reservation or arriving at 5pm to get yourself on the list. It is only open for dinner. Inside, there is a small, intimate seating area with only bar seating and a few tables. If you are seated at the tables, it is customary to take off your shoes here so I personally would wear ones that are easy to take on/off. The menu is tapas style with many Japanese small plates, appetizers, sushi, in addition to ramen, udon, and rice entrees. I highly suggest trying the Kobe beef skewers, grilled shishito peppers, adegashi tofu, and takoyaki! The sushi here is consistently fresh, and my favorite the blue fin fatty tuna is soooo buttery and amazing every time. The traditional curry rice plate is very full and authentic in flavor… just phenomenal, one of my go-tos. Highly recommended!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Tasty Japanese bites with warm and speedy service!Mr. Max has been on my list of places to try and it lives up to the great reviews.Everything from the fresh sashimi sampler to the buttery grilled squid was top quality. I will be back to make my way through their menu!

Great tonkotsu ramen is worth every minute of a cross-town drive in the cold. Found it at Irving’s Mr Max Izakaya Restaurant. Their impossibly creamy pork broth is packed with enough umami to power a jet to Tokyo. World-class delicious. More: https://escapehatchdallas.com/2022/02/tonkotsu-ramen-here-is-as-good-as-it-gets/

We love this restaurant! The 1.5h drive from our house is worth it! Be there when it opens at 5 if you don’t have a reservation! “Tapas” style menu. It’s hard to not fall into temptation and order too many of the options offered. Everything we tried there is delicious. So nice to have a casual different option in the area. The seating arrangements are kinda cool, specially because it’s so hard to find restaurants with real tatami rooms.

Best Izakaya in DFW. The yummy food comes out fast every time! Great staff and ambience. Feels like Japan at Mr Max.

Small and a little tucked back, this place has a super chill vibe and was really cool to visit. Although, definitely does not look like it from the outside. Staff was super friendly, food was absolutely fantastic, and price was well worth it. The tonkotsu ramen was easily the best I have had outside of Japan and the chef's special with beer was such a nice touch. If I am ever in Dallas again, I will make sure I go back.

This is the closest that I've ever been to Japan. I like that it is filled with Japanese patrons. Take your shoes off, sit on the floor, and try some amazing foods you've never had before. We love to go in a group of 4-6 and order many small plates to try different things. Been there twice and will continue to go. 10/10Pro tip: make a reservation!! Don't even bother if you don't have one. This place is tiny (in the best way.)

The takoyaki was some of the best I've ever had. Small dishes done right. Got there at 4:40 and there were already 8 people waiting. The inside isn't massive so if you have a larger group try to make reservations.

Excellent food and superb staff. I saw one of the chefs, not the main chef prepare 3 dishes at once. He is also one of the best there. Great ambience! I used to visit 2 to 3 times a week before my doctor told me to stop drinking and cut back on fat. So sad.

Nice cozy place with own atmosphere! The food here is fantastic! Definitely recommend to try! Everything was delicious and fresh, the staff was polite and friendly! Like it! And recommend to think in advance about booking.
