I've been eating here for 20+ years now since I was a kid. More recently, I've been eating here maybe once or twice a week for lunch since I work nearby and it is excellent Taiwanese comfort food at a great price. This week however, I've discovered that there were little silica gel pellets in the hot chili oil. I felt a distinct sand-like or pebble-like crunch to my food. That's when I noticed little shiny round silica beads in my to-go box mixed in with the chili-oil. I called the restaurant to let them know this batch of chili oil could be bad... having no intention other than not wanting other people to ingest it. They hard-denied putting anything like that in their food, so I drove over to show them the several pellets I found in my food-- the same kind that comes in those little packets that say "DO NOT EAT" on them. They immediately began dismissing it as part of the chili-oil mix... "it's not from the chili-oil. We've been using the same chili to make it," they said. I then got 2 small spoons of the chili-oil sitting on their counter and I was immediately able to find more of the familiar little smooth pellets. I never accused them of any wrongdoing... I was simply trying to do my part as a half-decent human being and let them know of this issue. As a patron at this place more often than most people, I can definitely say the chili-oil has not always been like this. I tried to convince them that it was probably a bad batch of chili-powder that they used. They denied absolutely everything, claiming that its just the way it comes and there's nothing they can do about it. I suggested they could just toss out this batch... and buy another batch. It really wouldn't be much of a loss at all, considering people's health is at stake. Nope. Deny. Deny. Deny. They told me to just not use it if I didn't like it. Wow. I've known these elderly lunch-ladies for years... they have always been nothing but nice to me. I couldn't bring myself to say anything rude towards them, but I did raise the question to them... "Don't you think this is a little lacking in common decency or integrity?" That was the end of it. I probably will still be eating there... but I know to check my food now before putting it in my mouth.

I visited this restaurant on 11/29/2019. This is one of the most authentic Formosa-TAIWAN restaurants. The staff is super friendly. With a fantastic price, you get to enjoy the taste of Taiwanese food. Here's how I rate and review a restaurant: the cleanliness of the restaurant, the uniqueness of the food, and, the most important of all, the customer service. Yellow River restaurant has all of the traits above-mentioned. If Google allowed, I would definitely vote 10, perfect score with a gold star!!! Don't forget to try their Zong-Zi 粽子. They are marvelous!
