Stopped by here with my girlfriend and her best friend who’s visiting us from NYC. She’s originally from Dallas so we had to show her why houston is the superior Texas city. My gf and I have been here a few times and were craving something from China Town. Tiger Den is always a reliable satisfaction to that craving! We came on a busy Saturday night. There’s a sign up list outside for waiting on a table. We were 4th or 5th and waited less than 15 mins before we were seated. We shared the Pork Gyoza and Ika Geso as our apps. The Pork Gyoza was so good and a perfect pairing with the spicy soy sauce. We fought over the last bite between the three of us, which I sadly lost. The Ika Geso is very similar to calamari. It’s even served with lemon. We were less so a fan of this dish as the meat was pretty tender (similar to alligator if you’ve ever had that), but I think it’s more so the nature of the dish itself than how Tiger Den prepared it.I got the Spicy Miso for my entree and the flavors were so good. My absolute favorite part are the kikurage mushrooms (black rubbery looking pieces)! Only complaint is that the “spicy” title is misleading. This soup is mild at best, but the flavors are fantastic. Will happily come here again.
Awesome food. Tasted fresh, nothing overly 'burn' your mouth hot which means everything was cooked at a good temperature. The workers here are very friendly. The fact is they get things done. This will be a place I visit monthly. It reminded me of a ramen shop I really enjoyed in downtown Philadelphia. Good stuff.
Always consistent in regards to the best Ramen in Houston. Service is no frills quick in and out.
Tonkotsu, and shoyu were absolutely delicious. Services was friendly and attentive and it was priced very well for the quality and quantity.. Love finding places like this on weekend travels
It was my first time here and it was amazing I even ordered an extra one to go for my lunch the next day so if you've never been here before I suggest you go here they open at 5pm til 11pm I believe they are closed on Mondays
If you're a group you should arrive together cause they won't let you in until everyone gets there. But it's worth the wait, they have great ramen ? and a fun atmosphere
I used to be a huge fan of this ramen joint. We're talking going since college and brought all my dates to level. This ramen joint was the basis of what I compare all other ramens to when I travel to other cities. I don't even consider Jinya on the same level as this ramen.I would give this an automatic five stars-- guaranteed. But I'm not sure if it's due to the pandemic, but the quality of both service and food is severely lacking. My usual go to order is the spicy miso with extra chashu I'd split with my fiance. The broth instead of tasting savory and miso-unmai goodness it gave heavy hints of just soy sauce and missed the spice bomb completely. I also got heavy hints of black garlic oil and sesame oil.My fiance's is the tan tan mien with 2x chashu and a side of corn. He had commented on the portions of ground pork and chashu were very small compared to in the past as well as the noodle portions (thanks 'rona!). Flavor was alright, but it didn't taste the same as it usually did.Our go to appetizers is the ika geso and grilled eggplant. Sometimes we may swap out one of the times with the takoyaki. Takoyaki was still good at this location. Unfortunately, I was told by my server that the ika geso was unavailable and somehow my grilled eggplant was completely burned so I couldn't comment on it.When we normally order at Tiger Den, sometimes the appetizers end up populating after the ramen arrives - no harm, no foul and the server will prompt us on it and openly communicate this to us when they follow up on our food service. I would normally chalk this up to the signature feature of what happens in food culture Chinatown, so it wasn't a major issue.Instead, we find out that multiple appetizers were not available until the end of the meal when we followed up on it before we began eating and we're never communicated by our server in the first place until we asked. When you go to Chinatown you should expect it to be a norm to chase down a server to get your food. It's as normal as chasing down a dim sum cart lady during the morning rush on the weekend. But the food will ALWAYS make up for the experience as part of the food scene here.I hate to say it, but Tiger Den isn't as good as it used to be anymore and it's sadly disappointing.
Go there only if it after 10pm and you have no other option ! Try to eat minimum! get a beer or whatever drink and avoid food ! That is what this place good for !This is to the manager:How can you have bad food and such bad service at the same time? Like take 1 hour of your time and train servers some manner. Tell them they have to go to tables often instead of standing at register and hang out....Teach them the menu too!and get the food improved.
Really great ramen place located in Dun Huang Plaza. The restaurant has a nice decor. We tried multiple dishes and all were delicious. Our favorites are the spicy cucumber and ika geso (fried squid) from the starters and the spicy miso ramen.
This place is cute. Was getting food truck vibes from it. Service was attentive and the food was good. I highly recommend the steak skewers & the little donuts they offer as dessert. Wish place was large enough to offer more intimacy for a couple. Felt a little squished having to sit next to strangers.
