This place has a very limited window regarding the time it's actually opened. Very small mom and pop restaurant where the wait could be a little more than expected but this place is a must try in Houston. The fish quality was absolutely amazing and I will be back here to try more from the menu.
If you decide to come in the weekend, make sure to get an hour earlier because there is a line usually. I went for the first time with friends, and it is a great place to eat sushi! For the price, it was well worth it. The owners really care. Please be patient because this is indeed a mom-and-pop restaurant. The husband and wife runs this place and tries their best to create an authentic dining experience.
Very fresh fish, well seasoned sushi rice, reasonably priced, simply good food. There are no unusual combinations or convoluted sauces. Although I do enjoy that kind of an experience once in a while; this place just isn't that. This restaurant is small and fills up quickly. There is usually a line of people out the door waiting for a table; you can't put your name down. Place your order all at once to minimize wait time. You have to wait to place a to-go order just the same. I do not believe they take orders over the phone. I'm not sure what it's like on weekdays. Worth the wait!!
A skilled Japanese chef and his wife, with everything made to order. So arrive early. Limited hours of operation. The lines form around 11:30 for the opening at noon. There are only 12 tables and the restaurant is staffed by the sushi master and his wife handles front of the room. The food is fantastic and I will let the photos tell the story. There is a lunch menu from which we made our choices. Recommended: the curry udon soup ; and the salmon salad; but everything here is great. On most days Sushi Miyagi is open only from 12 to 3 (see photo of business hours). I can't recommend this place highly enough. A Houston institution. I love the curry udon soup. The tofu salad is delicious as are all of the salads.
The pinnacle example of mom and pop shop. Husband and wife hustle hard and put in all their heart into it. Resulting in possible long waits but genuine passion for quality and service. Spicy scallops, amazing tofu, and fresh sashimi. Place is not at all what you'd expected with passion art work from the auntie and randomness of the decor. I'd still come back to try more ! Pricing and quality is amazing for its location ! Enjoy !
Highly recommended! Food is so delicious.Everything we try is very impressive. My favorite is the crispy spicy salmon salad.Very fresh, tasty, with layers of texture and flavor. Must try!!We came on Tuesday afternoon around 2. There is table no need to wait. I was expecting a long waiting time. But actually, we did not wait long for our first dish to come. Maybe only 15-20 minutes.A really pleasant experience here, will definitely come again.
Family business. This place is cozy. But the FOOD oh my God is so goooooooooood. Don't go there if you are in a hurry. I highly recommend this place. Very DELICIOUS ?
I’m here now @4pm on a Thursday for an early dinner. This sushi is GOOD and very fresh tasting. It must be popular bc even this early, the place is 3/4s full. Decent prices. It’s so good, I’m ordering more to go for lunch tomorrow.
The food at Sushi Miyagi was great. Most of the appetizers are bland without the sauce so keep that in mind. The ginger and wasabi is fresh. The presentation is cute and well done. The Japanese soda was new to me and my friends and it was really cool to us.Unfortunately, the waitress we had was rushing us and while she wasn't overtly rude, she was subtlety rude. She was by herself and she was doing dining-in orders and to-go orders. It annoyed her that my friends and I were taking so long to decide what to eat. First it was three of us and one friend arrived late. We didn't want to order until she arrived. Also, we were talking while looking over the menu, so we were distracted. She kept telling us, she has a lot of to go orders and the slower we are, the longer it will take to get our food.I've never experienced this before. Generally, every place I've been to, allow us to look for what we want and they come back and check if we're ready. They don't expect us to know as soon as we are seated. And if we don't know when they deliver the drinks, they come back. Her tip suffered from her rudeness and I can't see myself going back. The restaurant is small with maybe 5-8 tables. It's very cozy. They'd benefit from a hostess that can handle the to-go orders and seating the people, so the waitress isn't overwhelmed and rude. Also, they need a busser, a person who can pick up the plates, wipe down the table and wash the dishes. For one woman to do the bussing, hosting, and waitressing will hurt their business. They have the potential to grow since the sushi is delicious. When my friend and I arrived, only one table had people. We seated ourself, the lady then brought our menu. That's when I asked for a third for my friend. After about 10 minutes more people arrived but they just stood there waiting to be seated while the lady ran around. After they were seated. The people ordered, ate, and left. We were talking for so long, most people left before us. Tables sat there dirty while other people stood. She didn't rush us to leave and I remember my friend saying, there's tables available. When we first arrived, tables were available while people stood. I guess they weren't as bold as we were to sit ourselves but after people ate and left, the tables were dirty. Hence the restaurant needs a hostess and busser. If they can't afford both, the best bet is a hostess. She can seat the people, take to-go orders, and clean the tables.Overall I'd recommend the food. If they get another worker, I'd probably go back.
Amazing, authentic sushi experience. Everything is made fresh to order. They have some of the freshest fish in all of Houston. Every specialty roll I've tried is amazing, and so are their sushi combos. This small hole-in-the-wall is operated entirely by a couple: the husband is the sushi master, and the wife waits tables. Because of this, their hours are quite limited, and do have some patience as wait times are quite long.
