Shabu Squared is Houston's first Shabu Shabu restaurant and bar. If you don’t know what this is, Shabu Shabu is a Japanese nabemono hot pot dish of thinly sliced meat and vegetables boiled in water. The term is onomatopoeic, derived from the sound emitted "swish-swish" when the ingredients are stirred in the cooking pot and served with dipping sauces. It’s very different than the typical Chinese hot pot restaurants all over Chinatown.We have been frequenting Shabu Shabu for years now, and we can confirm it is one of our favorite restaurants in Houston. They have a free private parking lot which always has space available. We typically go for lunch on the weekends, and it’s usually not super busy. If going for dinner, you may experience a longer wait, so keep this in mind.As for food, we always order:+Sukiyaki broth for $3 with Spicy paste ($1 extra)+Beef Belly (6 oz) for $16+Sashimi Grade Salmon (6 oz) for $21Each broth comes with a bowl of vegetables, mushrooms, and udon noodles. It also comes with two dipping sauces and a bowl of rice. Make sure to ask for the spicy hot sauce drops for the dipping sauces! If dining with more people and sharing the broth, they will charge extra for these items.Overall, Shabu Squared is a great restaurant in Houston. It’s clean, the service is great, it’s spacious, it’s modern, and the food is incredible and tasty. Sure, you may be spending a lot more than you’re used to, especially for food in/near Chinatown, but it’s worth it for what you get. I would highly recommend checking them out!
Came for dinner last night. Tony was our waiter. He took his time to explain the menu to us. Brought out a special chili oil for our sauces. We enjoyed the experience.
Went with my husband for the first time and we felt in love with the food, the people that worked there were very nice and helpful explaining all the menu for us. We definitely will be coming back. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Had the spicy crab broth. Very flavorful! Thanks for the recommendation from our waiter. The only thing I didn’t like as compared to other hot pot places is getting to choose your veggies. The cuts of meat were phenomenal!
First time here and I'll definitely come back. Our server was very courteous and always check up on us so we never run out of anything. Fresh quality meats and vegetables, perfect with the broth. Love it.
Probably one of my top 5 shabu experiences. The meats were tender and delicious. Service was efficient. Lastly the dips and broth tied everything together! Space was a little tight but you can classify it as “intimate” haha Very enjoyable meal

Incredible experience! Definitely on the pricier side, but for good reason; the service and quality of food is great! Our servers were attentive and explained the process thoroughly. I'll definitely be coming back!

Great place to have beef hot pot! Normally, we need to yell at our kids for them to eat. In here, they keep asking for more beef and rice :)!
