I love their food but everytimeI go there I feel bad because of the woman who seats customersShe is very rude.I don't know why they keep her. They should hire a polite and friendly type.
It's hard to find a place that can top this spot when it comes to izakaya. Sushi is also solid with fresh ingredients. Friendly welcoming staff creates a positive vibe for your friend group or if you're looking to enjoy high quality Japanese dining solo.
I'm already planning my return trip here. The interior vibe could be a little more cozy and Izakaya-like. There was half of the restaurant that seemed very cool and cozy, however we were not sat on that side. I hope to raise my review to five stars if I can get a seat on the good side next time. The menu had a great variety of Japanese izakaya fare. We got a lot of stuff to try: skewers, onigiri, sushi, curry, and it was all great. They were out of one thing we tried to order, the croquettes. The only thing that fell flat was the Mac-and-potato salad, just need more seasoning. They even had their own Chuhai cocktails. Decent wine by glass list. Large sake selection. And of course Japanese beer.Definitely recommend to those looking for Japanese experience that's more than just your average sushi restaurant.
Foods are amazing. Both fried and grilled meet are cooked to perfection. Also udon is available at half size; I ordered one as a comforting final dish.
Had a great experience with my family (group of 9) in a private room. All the food was great and fresh. It’s not quite the quality of the top sushi places in Houston but it’s also about half the price (if not cheaper) than those other places. Want fresh, authentic, no frills sushi and other authentic choices at a reasonable price and great service? This is the place! You won’t be disappointed.
Hands down the best sushi I’ve had in Houston… or even America. I’ve had sushi in Japan so my standards are pretty high & this place was amazing. You can rack up the bill if you’re hanging out and ordering nigiri and tapas for a few hours but every time I’ve gone the experience and food have been superb. Great customer service, I love the atmosphere, and the food has been phenomenal. Highly recommend trying the amber jack nigiri and the curry is delicious! My goal is to try everything on the menu and so far nothing has disappointed. Also get the steak kabobs. You won’t regret it :)Can’t wait to go back!
Not the best izakaya experience I've had. We tried the chicken karaage (one of the most basic dishes) and found it to be lackluster. You can tell a lot about a place by how it prepares chicken karaage. The chawan mushi steamed egg was very strange (had yuzu in it?) and the consistency was a little too crumbly. Overall, it was a very mediocre experience for the price of the food. I would not go back again.
I am a Lao/Thai person who is very particular about my Asian food and fish quality, and Izakaya is truly the best sushi I've had since moving to Houston 3 years ago. It is $$-$$$ but it was worth the splurge IMO since we do not go out to eat often. The staff was absolutely perfectly cordial and helpful in explaining their specials and allowed us to dine without a reservation on a Saturday night, which was my mistake. I loved the Japanese movie posters and was a little sad I was too full to have dessert.1 order of 5 skewers, 2 rolls, and edamame was the perfect amount of food for 2 people. They have a huge cocktail menu, but I was not in the mood for alcohol, but will definitely return to try some in the future. I am so excited to return, thank you very much for such a lovely dining experience. <3
WOW. Even if I had a bad experience (which I haven't), I would still come back. People, food, culture...nothing better in Houston. Amazing establishment!
Don’t get this restaurant confused with other similarly named restaurants in Houston. This restaurant is one of its kind. Sashimis are fresh at a fair price. The bluefin tuna sashimi combo is a must. I would rate the quality of this restaurant a couple ranks above Oishii, one of my other go-to Japanese restaurants in town. The udon here is also one of the bests I’ve had. Overall, this is my go to place for a casual quality Japanese dinner that never disappoints.
