Stunning Pakistani food with amazing flavour. I found some of the curries, dhal quite oily. They do have vegan and vegetarian options. The green curry sauce was unique and amazing. Garlic naan is amazing. Wasn't a fan of Chana. Will go back for sure. Great value for money.
Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection. We were pleasantly surprised by quick and friendly service as their reviews weren’t great. If you appreciate Indo-Pak cuisine like we do, your tastebuds are bound to be delighted with their authentic and delicious cooking.
Honestly, WOW! Why did it take me so long to come back here and to write a review?!After spending 3 long hours at the zoo, we wanted something to energized us again so we stopped by here. Plus I was craving fried chicken! And man! Their fried chicken was fire! Loved that it was well seasoned and juicy! Only downside was that the chicken wasn’t fried long enough so I didn’t get that ASMR crunch factor! But still delish nonetheless. My friends and I also ordered the goat masala. That was my favorite dish by far! It was packed with robust flavors. Hint of spice to tickle ya throat but nothing outrageous. And the goat meat itself was so tender! Fork tender! Grabbed some garlic naan to dip in it and wow! AMAZEBALLS! I believed we also got the grilled bbq special combo platter. Several different kinds of meat on it. I don’t remember all of it but most of it were super delish. Very tender and juicy. Definitely worth trying! To conclude, I thought this meal was going to energize us but instead, gave me hella FOOD COMA! haha but that is definitely not a bad thing. Only good food can do that to ya girl. So worth it!The owner himself took out orders. He was super sweet! Would definitely try to come back more often. I suggest that if you want to dine in, make sure to come a little before the lunch rush. Even for a Tuesday, it was filling up quick!
This restaurant is now on my list of favorites. My wife suggested we try it. She read that Anthony Bourdain had eaten there and loved it. We both agree that this place is excellent and highly recommend it. The chef came out to see if we needed any help with the menu and offered suggestions. He also brought us a complementary fried vegetable dish that was delicious. I chose an Indian-Mexican fusion quesadilla and it was so good! My wife ordered a chick peas - potato dish that had a Bourdain recommendation. She loved it. We will definitely go back. Great dining experience.
Amazing food. Owner and staff were excellent. Highly recommend!
You simply can not find better Indian/Pakistani food anywhere! It is always fresh, perfectly seasoned and the variety of dishes will take your breath away. Kaiser and Azra Lashkari are the perfect hosts and chefs. Do not miss their very own specialty dishes: Steak Tikka and Fried Chicken! Of course, the Lamb Vindaloo, Butter Chicken, Goat Masala and all their vegetable and lentil dishes are classic. If you are very lucky, they will have warm bread pudding, with a buttery sauce for dessert. And, it is so affordable! Gay McCoy, Bellaire, Texas April 5, 2022
The restaurant got crowded after we ordered and we couldn't enjoy our food with people's butts constantly in our face, passing by our table. We tried to change tables but it wasn't any better, since we were sandwiched in between two other tables with no space between. The owner came over with a tray of fried vegetables and offered some. We ended up having to pay for it even though we didn't order it. We also noticed that the same tray was put on the counter and stayed there for a while uncovered while multiple people were passing by, talking over it in close proximity. Later some of the contents of that same tray ended up in to-go boxes for orders waiting to be picked up. That kind of grossed us out. The food was okay but not phenomenal and we have eaten better versions of the same dishes in the Houston area. I don't think we will return, concerns over food safety and hygene as well as the atmosphere is a huge negative and the dishes we tried don't make up for it.
Food that makes you smile, sing, celebrate, cheer and reminisce. Some of the feelings you get when you take bite after bite at Himalaya Restaurant & Catering in Houston. Celebrating their 18th year Chef Kaiser Lashkari and Azra Lashkari bring the flavors of India and his home of Karachi, Pakistan to the Mahatma Gandhi District at 59 and Hilcroft. My wife and I were on a mission to get an order of Chef Kaiser's famous masala-infused fried chicken, but by the time we got their they were sold out. We had not been there forever, we knew whatever we ordered that it would just be great. We decided to start with an order of veg. samosas, which were stellar.Entrée's: the Special BBQ / Grill Platter (Deluxe) - This platter sizzles with our BBQ specialties such as Lamb Seekh Kabab, Chicken Seekh Kabab, Chicken Boti, Persian Kabab and the very famous Steak Tikka. This master piece truly delivers your money's worth. Everything on this platter was so good, but the Sandy's Steak Tikka Bourdain - Highly acclaimed, lean and tender beef steak marinated in griddle roasted aromatic spices (from Bihar region of India) and chargrilled to perfection. Melts in your mouth. The steak tikka is now a Top 5 dish of all time, think beef taco al carbon but done Indian style. I took one bite and I instantly missed my Dad, and remembered him grilling ribs and steaks on the beach in Hong Kong. The flavors penetrated every ounce of the steak, and I was so happy that they were out of fried chicken, because we would have not had this awesomeness. The Chicken Boti - Skewered, tender and juicy chunks of boneless chicken tikka pieces with a special marinade anf chargrilled was also the best we have had anywhere. Persian, Lamb Seekh, Chicken Seekh all tender and seasoned beautifully. We also got the Chicken Hara Masala (Hyderabadi) - Tender juicy pieces of boneless chicken cooked in a tiny green curry sauce made from green chilies, cilantro, yogurt and garam masala. This is the chef's signature dish! Bourdain approved. OMG! My wife's new favorite Indian dish.Plain Naan, Garlic Naan and Rice to go with all the wonderfulness.Chef Kaiser brought us a couple extra dishes:Ravi’s Aloo Chana Masala (Vegan) - Butter soft chickpeas and potato cubes simmered in a piquant curry sauce. A special treat from Punjab, India. Bourdain approved. We approved!Lamb Karhai (Frontier Style) - Succulent lamb meat pieces cooked with fresh tomatoes, karhai masala, green chillies, ginger and garlic in a traditional work topped generously with freshly chopped cilantro and sliced ginger. A dish from the frontier province of Pakistan. Perfect to sop up this wonderful gravy and tender meat with naan.Dessert was Mukesh’s Fav. Gulab Jamun (4) - This dessert is equally loved by kids and grownups. Dry milk balls resembling donut holes are sauteed and steeped in an aromatic rose syrupDo you want to know why Chef Kaiser is a multi-time James Beard Semifinalist, I highly recommed you go find out, your taste buds and belly will thank you. The flavors are only matched by his hospitality, it was great to catch up and talk with him. We can't wait to come back for more and promise not to take as long between visits.
I have left a few reviews. As always this place has fantastic food. The tastes are incredible. Best samosas I have ever had. The crispy lamb ones are a must. The garlic naan is also delicious. This place is a definite must for Houston. The owner comes by and takes your order. He also makes some great recommendations based on what one likes.
