Nice atmosphere , good home made style food , my chicken was delicious and the potato’s and Mac and cheese were on point.
We have been to Gus’s all over the country and this one did not disappoint! The food was ? as usual and the staff was even more so. I was very impressed with the friendly and attentive staff. All the employees we encountered were super kind and quick to smile and greet us. We had a group of 12 and were made to fell as if we were special guest! The place was well kept and clean as well as the restrooms. Some in our party had never been to a Gus’s Fried Chicken and we were so glad that this was their first experience. The greens and fried okra were my favorite this visit outside the chicken of course but the few that had the Mac and cheese said it was a game changer… hahaha I think that means it was fantastic!! Can’t wait to swing back in on our next trip to Houston! Keep it up guys!! ?
I really can’t for the life of me figure this out. Today I go in, they are closing at 4 for an employee event. That’s fine, that is not an issue. They didn’t pick up my call when I tried to order to-go, after calling 3 times, that is fine also. Most of the ladies are very nice up front. Ordered 3 piece dark , two thighs and one breast. I ate my food in the car in the parking lot, so right after I received it, I opened it. The thighs were super hot and fresh, consistent with Gus’s chicken, however the breast piece was dry and lukewarm. Why.. just why would you even do that? Why would you give me everything hot and fresh and an old breast piece? I’m paying with my hard earned money, are the cooks lazy? Was there a rush to get closed? I mean cmon now, this isn’t the first time some pieces have been old. Y’all can’t lose customers like this, find out what they’re doing in the kitchen. Unacceptable. Would’ve gave it 1 star, but the thighs were good , sides were good, the two girls who gave me my order were nice.
I had a hankering for Fried Chicken and this didn't disappoint. I got (2) 3pc Dark with 4 side items, plus the Chocolate Pie. It was all pretty tasty. The chicken could have been dipped better in the the batter. The Baked Beans and Okra were good, nothing was hot, more warm. The Potato Salad and Cole Slaw was good a well. The service was really good. I'll most likely recommend this place and be back.
This place is amazing. Have had a lot of fried chicken in my days but this place lives up to the hype. Sides were great and would highly recommend the mac and cheese and the potatoes salad. The beans were on point also. Only sad thing was there wasn't any beer but they let us go out and byob. Think they will get beer back soon though.
Without a doubt, best fried chicken in town! ALL chicken is slightly spicy, even chicken in the kids menu. So if you or your kids don’t handle spicy, it’s not a place for you.I love it as it comes, with beans and coleslaw. That btw, it’s also great!!Staff is awesome! Parking lot is small and can get busy but on certain hours you can park on the back street.Enjoy! ?
Something seemed not right while we were there. The service was good and the mac and cheese and potato salad were great. Ended up taking most home and now I am sure the oil was old. Too bad because it seemed burnt
Wow. I rarely give a restaurant a flawless rating, but this is certainly earned. An unassuming exterior leads to an incredible dining experience. On top of the food being incredible the staff are a hallmark of personal and friendly service. The meat is expertly fried and seasoned to ABSOLUTE perfection. The sides are all delicious and worth your attention. My favorites were the fried okra, baked beans and fries. They have some of the best fried green tomatoes I’ve ever had so be sure to order those as a starter. Please take a trip to this gem of a restaurant.
We ordered the fried pickle spears and the 1/2 chicken with seasoned fries. We weren’t super hungry but we’re glad we got to sample a little bit of everything! Both the dark and white meat were tender, flavorful, and seasoned with the right amount of heat. The fries weren’t as seasoned as we expected but still hit the spot nonetheless. You pretty much can’t go wrong with fried pickles. All in all, we left super full content. Thanks for a great experience!
We first discovered Gus's in San Antonio and couldn't wait to come back to Texas to enjoy it again. The Houston location was easy to find and does have a parking lot. Staff were super friendly and accommodating. We both had the special of 2 breasts and 2 sides. Chicken comes out hot and juicy. Skin is so crisp and spicy. You can get ranch or other dips. I got the Mac cheese and potato salad and hubby got the standard beans and Cole slaw. All sides were delicious. Beans were my favorite. Prices are great.
