Very upset with the service the food was not good by anymeans. When I left the business one of the cooks decided to go behind the dumpster to pee instead of going inside. All he did was go pee and went back to work I ended up not eating my food i took togo.

First time here...Place seemed as if they were unprepared for business. We ordered 1lb of carnitas, 1 lb of barbacoa and 1 dozen of tamales. We picked up a package of corn tortillas from their cooler that keeps them warm. As we picked the tortillas they were very cold, seemed like they had been sitting in the cooler for days. And the smell, it smelled like old. We bring a package to where you order and one of the girls say that those tortillas are no good, they had been there for a while. They didn't ave any guacamole or salsa ready either. And it seemed like they were ok with stuff not being ready for customers. And the there was a lady who was putting out produce who was told to remove the tortillas and says "oh yea they are not good" and continues her conversation on the phone. I will not come to this place again. Now I have to go to another store and get onion, cilantro, Limes and salsa cause apparently this wasn't part of the order or it's not included like other places when you buy carnitas and barbacoa.

Just making you all aware. So I found this pattern. But unfortunately they do hustle customers. Don’t believe me look out for it. Or maybe you’ve had it done to you.But when you ask for “cachete” which you obviously pay more for. But they’ll give you your order minus (1/2 pound). They’ll say they don’t have enough, so they’ll add the regular (cheaper in price barbacoa) to the order. Except they sell it to you for cachete price.I’ve seen it done to me. The person after me. But n a visit. The other two visits I’ve seen it done to other people.Even when you ask them to put that “1/2 pound” aside and for them to charge it’s supposed price. They give you a hard time for it, and say that’s not how they do things.

Good authentic Mexican food from tamales to Barbacoa tripas carnitas made fresh every weekend and hot ready to go by the pound

Over price in my opinion. And the food is not that great. I ordered different things to try. Carnitas, they were very grease and hard to eat. Not much flavor either. Tamales were ok. I don't think they make them with the red Chile sauce. The chicken had no color. I've had much better ones. The barbacoa was good. Definitely their specialty and only for this reason i gave this place two stars.Los precios muy altos y la comida no esta tan buena. Solo me gusto la barbacoa. Carnitas no están buenas. He comido mejores tamales.

Nasty carnitas when today bad experience n 33 for 2 pounds even gave tip thats not fair.

You will not be disappointed. Everything taste very authentic.

I was stoked about visiting this place based on the good reviews. Not sure if it was because I was there later during the day around noon or the fact that I got he last bit of barbacoa they had on the tray but it was way too fatty. Just about half of my order of barbacoa was fat, barely any meat at all. Also, be prepared to pay extra for salsa or taco fixings it’s all sold separate.

As always, the Barbacoa is excellent. The service is a bit slow, but with as the amount of customers they have, what do you expect. The one thing I would like to be improved is the cleanliness and sanitation of the place! Yes! There's flies ? inside of the bread case, flies around the few vegetables they offer, and the overall appearance of the place is as if you really was down in old Mexico ??. Shame to the current owners, Gerardos is an icon for North Side, let's make it look like one.

Best barbacoa in Houston my family been coming here for almost 25years. I tried other places ,Gerardo sells A-1 barbacoa
