This restaurant is my absolute favorite. Hands down. The Stuffed Avacado is to die for!
Usually the food is perfect and the service efficient. Tonight half of the order was wrong. The salsa was watery, the cheese dip was greasy and thin and the enchiladas dry. It’s like a different restaurant. I hope this is just a one-time thing.
956’s golden child told me I needed to check out La Playa as it’s the best queso in the valley and I would have to agree. The margs are smooth and go down easier than my ex girlfriend on my neighbor when I’m out of town. Bar service was bad, I was always asking him for a drink instead of him asking me. It was also ungodly hot in the bar area. I could’ve rang my underwear out when I left.
Well we started with chips and salsa. Chips were stale and salsa was like water and no flavor. The service was barely ok. The food we were served was not that good. The tea was great. The price of $35.00 for fajitas for 2 people was ridiculous and could barely make 3 small tacos. No bell peppers, burnt onions. And the tortillas was hard not to mention we asked for fresh tortillas because one of our tortillas had meat in it.... as in already...gross!!! I had just tooken the tortillas out of the foil wrap because they didn't have a traditional tortilla holder. The fi al bill over $50. dollars and maybe only worth $25. to $30. Dollars max to include taxes and tip. Had to be in Harlingen for a personal appointment and decided to stay for dinner before heading back to Corpus Christi. The meal overall was simply not worth it.
New in town, someone recommended, lots of good reviews but unfortunately that was as far as it got. Didn't get to try the food, got seated, watched several guest seated after us get there chips and drinks, said something to a server walking past. Then the hostess took our drink order, 5 minutes past, she didn't return but a waiter we hadn't seen dropped chips and salsa on the table without saying a word. Figured I was already there 20 minutes too long so we walked out.
Fantastic Mexican food! We were staying in Harlingen for the week and ate here 3 times. Each time was great. Service is fast and friendly and the food is out of this world! Will definitely be back next time we are in Harlingen!
We were staying at at nearby hotel and asked the clerk for the best Mexican food in town. Also asked a convenience store worker the same question. Both recommended La Playa. My wife had the stuffed Avocado and I had the Flounder Veracruz. Both were excellent. The Margaritas were good as well. Would definitely stop by again if I am ever in the Harlingen area.
We read about this on TripAdvisor and we came back again- stopping first from the airport, and again before returning to the airport. Great service - quick even when super busy. Food is properly priced and yummy. Will return again on our next trip to SPI
First time eating here! Not disappointed! Friendly staff, and the food was served pretty quick for it being 5 people. Everything tasted great, highly recommend the stuffed/fried avocado! Worth the price for sure. Looking for any excuse to go back now.
Our waiter tonight was Mario. He was having trouble getting our order correct. I asked for chalupa with fajitas instead of beef but I got chicken . Oh well. They were good. The shrimp cocktail was like a tomato soup with shrimp.The cocktails were a night mare. After the bartender came to confirm what I wanted to drink the 4th drink was correct. I did bring it to managers attention. He said the waiter is in training .
