Very tasty food, with generous portions and priced right. You might have a small wait, but it’s worth the wait. All three entrees were very flavorful and authentic.
What a fabulous place. They have been open for over 100 years! As soon as I walked in I could smell the wonderful food. Our waiter was awesome, went above and beyond without us even asking. He actually brought a sample sauce for us to tast, just to make sure we liked it. I had the Special Mexican Dinner, the sauce covering the enchilada and tamale was so tasty. Everything melts in your mouth and you wish you had a larger stomach. Shrimp Empanadas were also wonderful. There were at least 15 people in front of me to pay for their food. I didn't mind waiting, it's that good. I look forward to going back soon.
Stopped by for a quick lunch & was very surprised. Hot sauce is flavorful (but not very hot) and had a nice black bean dip. Food was awesome - highly recommend it.
I’ve heard it’s great and has a long history of good Mexican food. Despite the crowd and the signs about staffing shortages both the food and service lived up to their reputation as a wonderful dining experience !
Very good Tex Mex from a Galveston gem. If you are looking for a great meal at a reasonable price, The Original Mexican Cafe is your place.
My mom n I had a great lunch in March, started with guac and I had cheese enchiladas, she had the taco n cheese enchiladas combo, all delicious! My friend n I went back in April and started with cheese nachos, I had to get cheese enchiladas again, she had a chimichanga and loved her first trip to the Original! Very good service both trips!
While in Galveston I had to have dinner at the Original. Best enchiladas ever and I mean ever. Add a couple margaritas and great service and I had a great meal. It is a must every time I get to Galveston.
Been meaning to try this place for years and finally did, now that we are retired. Great prices, atmosphere, food and staff.
We had dinner here while in Galveston. First, the drinks were great and the service was also top-notch. Next, the food was outstanding, I had the fish taco and they were very good with lots of flavors and the fish was very fresh. My wife had a quesadilla and it was also very flavorful. Overall just a great place in general and a little off the beaten path for most travelers.
This place is not great. The food is mediocre at best. The three containers of salsa we received were literally just liquid. Nothing else. The rice and beans had no flavor. The enchiladas and tacos had basically no flavor either. The fajitas were ok, but overall this is probably some of the most disappointing Mexican food I have had.
