My husband wanted breakfast, so we stopped in… Everything was delicious! Sam made the experience extra with his friendly service and smile/ warm welcome! My husband enjoyed the briskets and gray dinner with sausage. Said his egg was cooked perfectly and the biscuit was really good. Unexpectedly, you can get lunch all the time! So I was able to enjoy my last sea food meal at breakfast! I highly recommend The Bourbon Street platter! Everything was perfect flavored with a large portion! Even the most simple item on the plate, the green beans has amazing flavor. The Étouffée was probably my favorite, with a bit of spice with the nice creamy texture. My 3 shrimp wrapped in bacon were big fat shrimp with a nice bacon flavor. Yummy! Highly satisfied with this place. My only tiny complaint was the vent hood/ air filtration system couldn’t quite keep up with the grill. You are in a cloud of food aroma! You will leave smelling like that most delicious food! We look forward to our next visit here! Honestly, you should give Sam a raise…or at least let him know he got a shout out! Haha!
If you like good gumbo (and I do!), You will ignore the surroundings and just eat. There are two gumbo choices--seafood or chicken & sausage. We only had the shrimp, crawfish, and oyster gumbo that is served in a huge bowl or a slightly smaller one. The dish is a meal in itself! There are numerous other options for every possible taste. The food is excellent. The physical property is not very attractive outside or inside. The tables are stainless steel with uncomfortable benches or chairs. The inside is very basic and dull. Parking is good--just off the Seawall. The service is friendly and efficient. As much as I like their gumbo, I am certain we will return. I can ignore the other issues, but others may feel differently. This is not fine dining, it is just good eating!
Very good food and friendly service. Place looks a bit sketchy from the outside, but the food was excellent. Prices were also reasonable. I had the Gumbo which was full of shrimp and oysters, wife had seafood omelet and cheese grits. Both were big portions and very tasty.
The beignets are delicious. My husband walked there to get them for me. It was not a bad walk from the hotel.
We tried the famous seafood Gumbo soup and we weren't disappointed. The fried oysters paired with Louisiana hot sauce were also amazing. Bourbon Street Platter that also comes with Shrimp gumbo, crawfish étouffée, char-grilled bacon-wrapped shrimp, Cajun green beans served with Jambalaya was also delicious. At the end, we had New Orlean style beignets as recommended by the nice staff. These were freshly made and tasted better than donuts.
Stopped here a few years ago for breakfast and beignets. Had some beignets here this trip for just a quick treat. Sadly, they were very thick, too doughy and just not appetizing. Also, orders only come in 1, 3 or 12, which seems odd. Shared an order of three for $5, which ended up fine since the flavor and texture were disappointing. Honestly, my beignets made with a mix at home are lighter and fluffier. Maybe the oil or something needs to be changed out, they just weren't up to the Gumbo Diner reputation I experienced last time I was here :(
Great location, great views, cozy atmosphere and GREAT food! Whether you have the Chicken & waffles, Shrimp & Grits (!!), seafood omelet, GUMBO or the BEST in nation Beignets, you will NOT be disappointed! Pricing is fair & reasonable. BIG shout outs to the cooks, staff and of course our server, Deavon J!!
Don't judge a book by its cover!Great Place! The Country Fried Steak was delicious. Light, crispity, mouthwatering gravy and served with perfectly done mashed taters and piping hot Mac & Cheese. The Shrimp Platter was good. A bit over priced for 8 shrimp, but delicious nonetheless.Our waiter was very welcoming and attentive. Philip, the manager, was extremely friendly. Giving us local advice and trip whole here on our stay in Galveston.
It was amazing ? ? the food here is really good. Super savory making you want to keep eating even when full. Had a small hiccup with my sons burger order but was fixed right away. The staff made you feel welcome kudos to both server working, they both greeted us well after the small change in serves being done at the time. Managers are wonderful too. Its a small place but worth it.
Best beach diner! Good food, great value! Great service! Get the Chicken an Waffles! You won’t need to eat the rest of the day! You can get drinks too!
