My family enjoys walking down the Strand when we go to Galveston and this is a must stop. La Kings has a great ice cram bar and candy shop. The best part is the taffy. We try to get there when we know they are pulling the taffy. There are so many flavors it is hard to pick a favorite. There is also a lift for wheelchairs. I recommend this business for families of all ages.

This is a fun place to go. Watch them make salt water taffy or peruse the store's excellent assortment of candies. The Taffy maker was informative and fun. It was quite an experience to watch the 100+ year old machine turn out the Taffy. Next we got their rich, creamy shakes. I got chocolate and my husband had strawberry. The best I've ever had!

We visited The Strand on our second day on the Island — cause it looked pretty interesting. We were not disappointed — the five block historic district is somewhat frozen in time — all buildings on that strip were built in the late 1800’s. This Sweet Tooth Shop (my name) is amazing — starting with the backdrop of the original spaces and furnishings. It’s a great place to take a break from the heat and enjoy a old fashioned ice cream malt/shake served in the mixing container with vintage glassware. If you’re looking for a gift to take home — candies of all shapes and sizes line the glass showcases. They even have live demonstrations of Taffy Pulling. The place is massive and somewhat overwhelming. Kids will love this place.

My friend took me here to pick up some treats to take home to Georgia. The fudge was amazing, the fruit slices and toffee were delicious! We watched the man making ( and throwing samples to the crowd) taffy. Crowded but totally worth the stop!

Sweet shop with lots of variety! And trust me we bought lots of candy! Everything we have had so far is delicious! Oh and don’t forget to try the ice cream- it is very smooth and creamy!

If you're visiting the strand in Galveston, I highly recommend stopping here. Usually you can watch a confectioner make candy in front of you, the ice cream selections are delicious. Tons of chocolates and candies to cheese from in the shopping area. Highly recommend an ice cream scoop, banana split, or shake. Sometimes lines can make it to be a five to 10 minute wait.

This place was very cool to experience, they had all kinds of sweet treats and it was a bit overwhelming but this is any candy lovers dream! The line for the ice cream was very long so I just got a float instead.

If you're in Galveston, La King's Confectionary IS A MUST! Watch fresh warm taffy being made and get one right from the fresh batch tossed out to you! They also make their own Ice cream upstairs!!Sugar free candies, fudge and truffles are available as well. You can find real Malts, Cherry Phosphate Sodas (old drug store style) fresh popcorn and coffee!!Do your inner child a favor and stop to make a memory here!! You'll never forget this place!

The largest candy store I have every been in. In fact, this is more than a store but a must stop for your visit to Galveston. They have a huge selection of in-house and externally made candy. In addition they have taffy pulling demonstrations, a classic milkshake bar, soda bar, and coffee bar. It’s a great stop for a little something sweet and a drink while you are downtown.

I have a certain nostalgia for this place. Summers during my childhood when we would go to galveston for a week or so we'd get at least 2 stops in here. This is a must visit when anywhere near the Galveston area. Taffee, Chocolate, Ice cream, candy, all of it is amazing.Edit 6 years later;Yup still amazing. They still have fantastic malts, banana splits, homemade saltwater taffee and a HUGE selection of fudges, chocolates, gummys, and now cotton candy.
