As delicious as always! The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. The food came out very quickly, which was perfect, since we are on a road trip!Just a heads-up; portions were rather large!
We visited for lunch on a Friday about 2pm, and were seated immediately! The fried pickles were great as an appetizer. Our entrees were chicken fried chicken …yummy…, pork fried cutlet….very good , and a couple of German items. All were very good, Service was prompt!
The food here was decent but nothing I'd rave about. We had the German snack and enjoyed it, but the bread that came with it was a bit soggy. We agreed to sit outside in the heat since we saw several fans, but were seated in an area away from fans/breeze that felt like indoors with no AC in 100 degrees. The chicken fried chicken was very good but a little overpriced. However, our server was very friendly and attentive. I would stop here for a drink in better weather but wouldn't pay for the food again.
We love German food and we’re in Fredericksburg so in luck. We ate here and the food was authentic and delicious! It had a lovely German ambiance. I would highly recommend it!
We ate in area that is totally open to the outside breezes but is inside the building and it was a warm Texas day, but we were quite comfortable. They had a number of choices (often there is only one) for my Gluten Free wife and she reported the meal to be very good. I did not eat GF and really enjoyed the Jagerschnitzel with red cabbage and sauerkraut. I asked the waitress about the bread pudding and the quite look she made told me all I needed to know. If you're not in the mood for a meal eat the bread pudding, it's worth going there for by itself. Even though they were crowded and very busy the food was excellent, and the service was perfect.
Decent food but not really authentic German (I am a fairly recent German immigrant so do know). but nice staff and good beers.
Came here for dinner and the place had a nice german charm to it.We got beer battered mushroom for appz and for entrees we got their special sausage and meatless sausage. Our mushrooms were super crispy and tasted good with the ranch that accompanied it. No complaints with the entrees, the sausages were amazing. I was pleasently surprised with their meatless option. The saukerat that came with the sausages was perfect.
Have eaten in many German restaurants in Fredericksburg but this was the first time for the Auslander. Should have tried it earlier as everything was prepared perfectly. The server was pleasant and professional. The food was prepared perfectly and was very tasty. This will most certainly be on our re-do list when we come back to Fredericksburg.
The Auslander (The Foreigner) is situated on East Main, not far from the National Museum of the Pacific War in downtown Fredericksburg. It is quite large and includes an open Biergarten, which is nice on a sunny evening. The menu is mainly Bavarian/German, but also includes international items. We had some local Texas wine, but German beer is also available. We enjoyed our dinner and had very good service.
Interesting meal. Loud and noisy. Wife tried the Rouladen and said it was excellent. I wanted something lighter, and don’t care for German food, so I opted for the sausage sandwich with fries. It must have been 12” long and as big as a kielbasa, unfortunately it tasted like a lightly smoked kielbasa also. All in all, I’m sure it was ok, wide beer selection but no ales, not a wide wine selection. There are other restaurants in town that you may want to check out.
