Delicious German pastries in old Fredericksburg. We will be back. We really liked having the option of walking up to the display case, viewing the baked options for breakfast, and carrying out. They were busy. It is a popular place for Sunday brunch in the square.
Worth the wait!We stopped in at around 10 on a Sunday morning and waited 10-15 minutes in the bakery line. Everything we picked tasted amazing and was very reasonably priced. I would definitely come here again.
This place is our favorite to eat while in town. Their homemade biscuits are the absolute best. The sausages and kraut are good, and the lunch specials are always well priced with a large tasty portion. The schnitzel covered in gravy was amazing! You really can't go wrong with any of their menu items. Give them a chance and you won't be disappointed.
Best and most beautiful pastries I have ever had and the staff is super nice! Everything we tried was perfect on flavors, appearance, and just baked perfectly. Absolutely a must for anyone wanting breakfast, snack, or dessert!
I ate at this restaurant twice during my weekend in Fredericksburg--once for lunch and once for breakfast. This restaurant is always packed, with lines of future patrons waiting to get in. The food is tasty, and the service is outstanding! All the waitstaff is attentive, and they work together as a team. I can't say enough positive about the Old German Bakery and Restaurant!
There was a line outside the restaurant for breakfast, but the food and pastries were excellent! We would definitely recommend this restaurant.
I was surprised with all the 5 star reviews. We overall didn’t like the food. It all tasted the same and was very bland. Maybe it was an off day but not good. The staff was nice, most likely will never return.
We did have to wait in line for over 30 minutes or more to get in the door and we barely made it in time for breakfast. They were super busy and we went in with 2 other couples who were seated and given menus and waited on immediately, however we had to wait several minutes for someone to stop by. When they did they were a little short with us, but they did get our drinks and the menus and our order in. We did have to wait a while for our food and I have to say the food was very good although I would have preferred it to be more hot. This restaurant is highly rated and the last time we visted the wait was so long that we decided to go elsewhere. You definitely need to put it on your stop while visiting Fredericksburg.
My friends and I ate at the Old German Bakery and Restaurant two weeks ago. We were in town for a wedding. I ordered the schintzel (pork) with German pan fried potatoes. It was awesome! The food tasted great and reminded me of a similar meal I ate in Heidelberg three years ago. The difference - a tall cold glass of ice tea, plenty of ketchup and tomatoes on the side! The next morning, the people who hosted the wedding bought kolaches and German pastries from the same restaurant for breakfast. The pastries were quite delicious! This restaurant has become a new favorite of mine!
Been a long while since I had genuine German food. This was quite good. The sausage was very good, the pretzel as an appetizer was outstanding. Only thing I thought was off (and this is simply a personal preference), the sauerkraut was a little...sweet? Didn't stop me from enjoying it but it was a flavor I didn't recall from when an old GF's German mother made sauerkraut.Still and all, very nice place for a meal!
