I went on a self guided rosé tour in Fredericksburg and popped into Hilmy to kill an extra 30 minutes before a reservation.Got a very affordable bottle of “2021 Rosé” it’s light, crisp, tangy, easy summer drinkin’!The patio is covered in shade by awnings and a lovely tree.It was Saturday and they happened to have live music and they weren’t busy at the time so the vibes were so chill
This winery is NOT kids or pet-friendly in my opinion. We love coming to Fredericksburg a few times a year to try new wines and wineries. Heard about Hilmy from another winery’s employee saying this is one of his favorite winery so we had high hopes. It started out great as they were friendly to us and let us bring our puppy through the front building to get to the back. After we got a bottle to enjoy on the patio, we wanted to walk around the patio to take some pictures and have our 2 kids and dog stretch out their legs a bit. One of the workers quickly told us to pretty much stay at our table since they were about to get busy. There were probably 3-4 tables taken at this point so it was pretty empty since we came right when they open. We are not the type of parents who just let their kids run around all crazy and bother people so we took the rest of our bottle and left promptly after. Just not impressed by wine or service.
Second time at this place and I will not return. I could not remember which wine I liked and previously purchased. The bartender overheard this conversation with my friends and OFFERED to let me taste some wines. After testing a few wines (very small pours) I ordered a glass of wine. My husband goes to pays, and I am CHARGED for a “tasting” fee. We were charges $50+ for “tasting”. We have bought a bottle at every place we visited and refused to buy one from here for the poor service.

We loved our experience here. Michael Barton the winemaker came out and talked to us. It was like a mini wine seminar. What a gem he is. We love bold reds and we really liked the Malbec and Tempranillo. We purchased both and had the Tempranillo with our meal of buffalo burgers tonight. Sensational!! We are very excited to find Texas wines that we really like.
Great wine, a must-stop! We have visited Hilmy at least 10 times and keep coming back for the delicious wine and friendly staff. Trinity and Casey have taken care of us the last couple times and are both wonderful! The Malbec, the Right Bank, the Juju, the Politics and Religion….. my favorite Reds. We have now joined their Wine Club ❤️
Hilmy was recommended to me by a friend, I enjoyed their wine during the tasting but we are visiting for more than the wine tasting and we're expecting a good experience. Our Hilmy staff member was not nice. It a 100% affected my experience and the review I am giving today even though I liked their wine. Our staff member barely explained what wine she was pouring, she spilled the wine every time she poured. I just think they need to learn about costumer service because the way she talked to us was rude and if she reworded her thoughts it would have been fine and that happened a few times throughout our 1.5 hour visit. It really depends if you're going for just their wine or to have a good wine vineyard experience.
Excellent wine choices, beautiful ambiance and views of the Hill Country. Trinity was our server and was absolutely fantastic! She is knowledgeable and a wonderful host!! We'll definitely be back.
