This brewery is pretty cool on the outside and the inside. The appetizers and entrees were pretty good, we had traditional German type foods. Their beers were nice and cold. They have a fridge full of cases of beers to purchase to go as well as a wall of souvenirs near the front. Highly recommend coming here and don't forget to roam the grounds!
We really wanted to like this place based on how beautiful the facility looks from the road, but honestly- it was one of the worst experiences we’ve had in the Hill Country to date.Beer - although the outdoor beer garden patio has a lot of potential, the beer tastes flat, bleak and watered down.Food - this it where it got really bad. My husband ordered the fish and chips - which were $16. It came out as 3 small, burnt fish sticks that looked like they could have been straight out of the freezer, over a basket of stale French fries. That’s $5.33 for each frozen fish stick….need I say more? I got the burger, which was overly salty with a stale bun. The restaurant felt like a Luby’s cafeteria…and for all we know, the food could have come out of the Great Value frozen section.Service - we waited almost an hour for a table, then when we were seated, our waitress didn’t even introduce herself to us. We were checked on maybe once, but there was nothing special here.All in all, the atmosphere was severely underwhelming and the food and drinks were extremely disappointing. If you’re looking for a good meal in Fredericksburg on a Saturday night, you won’t find one here.After reading other reviews and experiencing this place first hand, we really don’t understand how there can be so many good reviews…
The Kolsch and the Weisenbock.. pretty good. But the Hefeweizen and the Winter Sticke? SUPERB!! This brewery is located in an incredible space; breathtaking almost in its appearance. Tons of options. Fast, friendly service and lots of ambiance. A great place for a couple of pints, a hearty dinner, or an event! Worth the stop, 100%.
Stopped here for lunch and beer flights. Food was great. I had a salad with poached shrimp and my husband had the fish and chips. The property is beautiful with a lot of outdoor seating. The taproom is spacious. Make sure to get reservations so you're sure to get a table!
Had the schnitzel and fish and chips, both delicious and good portion sizes. Also had the flagship flight and these 2 desserts: chocolate cake was light and delicious and the bread pudding was amazing- had a nice thin and sweet crust and soft on the inside. Will definitely be returning!!
We got into town and needed a good, quick meal before everything closed for the evening and Altstadt was the perfect choice. The beer cheese is SO GOOD and the mustard is incredible. I love that they had plenty of wine choices, even my favorite sparkling from Mumm Napa. The pretzel melt was good, the German potato soup had an excellent onion flavor, and the peach dessert was quite yummy too. Oh, and of course the beer is excellent. We’ll definitely be back!
We really enjoyed our time at Alstadt! The facilities are beautiful, and we had great service. We enjoyed the Biergarten, and loved sitting out on the spacious patio with a beautiful view. I’m not a big beer drinker, but my group really enjoyed their flights! It was a great experience, and I’m sure we will be back!
Saw Alstadt being built and have now been able to make the trip back down. The Amber is an altbier that hit the spot and went well with the chicken schnitzel that our server, Daniel, recommended. Patio atmosphere was pleasant but there is a lot of traffic noise from 290. My husband had the Ruben and the pastrami was amazing. Definitely worth stopping by for a meal.
Came here with my best friend. We both really enjoyed the food. There was about a 45-50 minute wait for a table.I had the Altstadt Breakfast Sandwich and my friend had the chicken schnitzel. The sandwich was absolutely delicious and did not disappoint. The chicken schnitzel was good also. Perfectly cooked and very good texture.
I am so pleased we stopped here! We wanted to come last year, but due to COVID, we’re unable. The food is delicious, and the service is sensational, Courtney with her gorgeous pink hair really took care of us. 10/10 would recommend!!
