They only get 3 starts and I am giving them 3 instead of 2 because their ribs are phenomenal, and the bacon burnt ends are a nice option. Other than that…2’s. Brisket is perfect texture, moist where it should be with fat mixed in, but the flavor is unremarkable….plain ol’ brisket. Not much bark either. The pulled pork was kind of dry. Again, unremarkable. Not bad, just …nothing to brag about. The brisket and pulled pork could have been rescued by bread and BBQ sauce, except their sauce is terrible. Sauce is subjective…meaning everyone has their own preference, however, most Texans I know would agree this sauce was weak. And the flavor was off putting and did not pair well with smoked BBQ. The sausages were terrible—-they should stop selling sausage and try to retain some measure of pride in what they do. My dog wouldnt eat that sausage. The beans…my kids have screwed up batches of beans that tasted better. The other sides including the potatoe salad were basic standard cafeteria quality sides with nothing special to write home about. I recommend the ribs (phenomenal!!!!!) and the bacon burnt ends. Other than that…you could luck up and be a city slicker that dont know any better and think the rest of the menu is good…but Im here to tell you its not! Place was clean…staff was nice…prices? Way over priced especially for the quality.
On the recommendation friends and other reviews, we visited Heim on Magnolia in Ft Worth. We'd reviewed the menu before deciding to go and the pricing seemed a little steep (at $15+ for a brisket sandwich without sides, our expectations went higher). It's a modern, clean, uptown, urban atmosphere. Brisket was good, tender, but so are many others around. Sausage was flavorful, but so are many others. Sauce is unique, like a Texas vinegar, tomato-based sauce, but sweet rather than tangy (tangy is more my preference). We had two sides: potato salad and coleslaw. The potato salad was also unique, good, with minimal chunks, slices, etc. of ingredients, looking more a large scoop of mashed potatoes. The red coleslaw was also unique, but red - that is, almost entirely shredded red cabbage with very little sauce, dry, needing moisture. Heim is trying hard to be upscale, but the meat is on par with a Dickey's and priced 20%-30% higher than it should. Glad I tried it, but we won't be coming back. We can get the same or better elsewhere for a better value (there were 4 of us and the bill, which came to $75 for 2 basic sandwiches, 1 lb of brisket/sausage and 2 sides).
Outstanding BBQ. The bacon burnt ends are to die for. The rest of their meats are not far behind. Besides the BBQ they offer potato skins with brisket and loaded french fries. And a handful of sides. The seating area is a good size but not all that big which can be a problem because the place is quite popular. A must stop if you are a BBQ lover.
Bacon burnt ends and jalapeño sausage are awesome! Brisket and ribs are excellent too!
We tried this because we had read great reviews. We were not disappointed!!! You walk up to a counter and order. A good majority of the seating is family style. It’s quick for bbq. They have a good variety of meats and sides. My husband said that it was by far the best brisket he’s eaten. The potato skins maintained their crispy exterior. The green chili Mac is AMAZING! The potato salad is different but so good! The burgers are cooked perfect medium. The sausage has a good bite to it. The bacon burnt ends tasted like meat candy. All around everything we ate was delicious and we would definitely return.
We arrived at breakfast time and was able to beat the traffic. We ordered the bacon burnt ends and brisket breakfast tacos. I feel cheated because I did not know the burnt ends were this delicious. At $15 for a half/lbs, I still should've ordered a full pound. The salsa that came with the brisket tacos were a perfect compliment. I would definitely recommend.
I saw this place on BBQuest and have been trying to get here for a while. I wasn’t disappointed. I’m actually writing this review while eating my meal. Hands down amazing food. The pork belly burnt ends are on point. The brisket has an amazing rub and flavor. The Mac and cheese is really damn good. One of the few Texas BBQ places I’ve ate at that has good Mac and cheese.I would highly recommend eating here. 10/10 am coming back again.
Heim Barbecue hit a home run with me! I chose the 3 meat offering. The Bacon Burnt Ends were perfect imo. Like little pieces of candy. I also went with the fatty brisket, and was rewarded with a very tender and succulent piece of BBQ. Lastly I chose the cheddar/jalapeño sausage. For the sides I went with fries, and the twice baked potato salad which had a Smokey flavor to it due to the bacon within it.They also had a nice little bourbon selection. Went with a Weller SR to round out the dinner.
Took a recent transplant from California to have some real Texas BBQ on a holiday Monday. Thanks for being open and representing Texas well. Pork ribs were sold out so we split a 3 meat plate with Brisket, sausage and Turkey and added some bacon burnt ends. All the meats were excellent with good bark on the brisket and melt in your mouth. Disappointed the fries were not piping hot considering the wait time but very tasty experience.
Bacon burnt ends....nuff said. Also, the bathrooms are terrific
