Driven by this place many times and finally decided to stop and grab some food with my pre-teen and teen boys. This place was a hit. They both had the Fred Melt, which is like a single patty melt without the thousand island, and they loved it. I had the Badlands Burger, which is basically a barbecue burger, and it was very good. Hand cut fries for mine, a few orders of loaded fries for the boys, and topped off with some sweet teas and this place was a hit. A little on the pricier side for a burger and fries, but worth it nevertheless. We will be back.
I recently (today) visited the Camp Bowie location, I have to say…this was the most disappointing visit that I’ve ever had. Not only have they changed prices (which is understandable) they also changed the menu. The chips and quest was not up to par. The chips were so hard that we could barely chew them. The quest was so thick and flavorless. We didn’t enjoy our appetizer at all. Of course we didn’t say anything because we never know if someone will taint our food for sending something back. When we asked the waitress what her favorite thing on the menu was she stated “I can’t afford to eat here” sad, sad, sad. Fred’s is known for better and this was just a terrible experience. Not sure if we will be back.
We wanted to try the new Fred's on Camp Bowie but found out they're closed on Sunday. So we decided to try the other remaining location. We were glad we did. It was a bit of a drive for us and the traffic to get there from Arlington just sucks; even on a Sunday. But it was worth it. Our server was super nice though they didn't have enough help (and we were told that's why the other location is closed a couple of days a week). But he did his best, and overall it was a good experience. The food was excellent all around. We had onion rings to start which where great. Hot, not too much batter but just enough and large so there was plenty of sweet onion in them. I had the Patty Melt. I love a good Patty Melt and this one was decent. It could have used more onions but that's my only gripe with it. Toast was good and not soggy, burger was good size. Sweet potato fries were cooked just right; crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. One person had the Fred Burger and said it was a good burger. Nothing special about it but just a well executed hamburger with fresh lettuce, onion and tomatoes on a fresh bun. One person had the Chicken Fried Steak. It was large and had plenty of cream gravy. The person having it asked for the gravy on the side so he could take half of it home for dinner and ended up eating the whole thing there. Guess that says it all. Two in the group had the chicken strips. They were only six dollars and the serving size was ridiculously large. There were three and each one was the size of a small chicken breast. This is not a "kid's meal". Or if you get it for the kids, two or three could share it and all get plenty to eat. My daughter got fried pickles for her side. I tried them and while I'm not a big fried pickle eater, I must say they were pretty tasty. Like the onion rings, pickle slices were large enough to get a good dill pickle taste while not so small as to disappear in the batter and the batter stayed on the slices and wasn't too thick or too thin. Just the right amount to complement the pickle flavor. We had a good time, left stuffed and would recommend to others. And we're still planning on trying the Camp Bowie location when they get enough staff to open on Sundays...
I was excited about getting to join my sister here for lunch, and much to my dismay, the place kinda let me down. Now, don't get me wrong, the food we ordered was good, but i guess i expected more from the experience. It was extremely dark for the time we were in and a little tough to read the menu. (No fault of theirs as I'm blind in one eye.) Anywho, the menu lacked in actual options, but the meals that were on there were certainly diverse in customization or variations, if you will. Again what we had was good but not what i expected.
Really excellent food and the margarita was great. There were several of us and we had chicken fried steaks and burgers, so many to choose from. Service was pretty good as well
We had heard about the burgers here, so we decided to come. The Serrano burger was amazing. I like spicy food, and as a Mexican, it gives you that kick to give the burger some extra flavor. The beer is cold, and the service is great. When you want good burgers, nice margaritas and cold beer, then this is your spot!
Stopped here for dinner while going through town. Great service and food. I had a patty melt with onion rings. They were both outstanding. Hard to capture the atmosphere of the old place but the new one is ok. Always a good stop when in Ft Worth.
The service was attentive and well executed. It was Sunday afternoon around 2pm. I went for Chicken Fried Steak. It looked beautiful when it arrived, the fries were hot and fresh. The steak was krispy on the outside but the meat inside the crust was dark and dried up. Either overcooked or cooked twice. Very disappointing.
I found the restaurant on some website listing the top places to get a burger. It was so amazing. Large portions, perfectly cooked, and delicious! We will be back!
Great food. Nice and Hot. Cold beer. Cold...ice cold glasses. Service was good but once u have food. You have to ask at counter or bar. They just don't come back much. Actually I like it but not sure that's the plan. Still 5 stars.
