Had not been there for a few years. The food had gotten a bit bland. I was re routed to the west side of town and remembered Comos. What a delightful surprise! I ordered the spaghetti and ravioli. The sauce was as good as I remember. My food was delicious. My husband and I shared a spumoni. It came drizzling with raspberry and chocolate sauce. If you haven't visited in a while, I recommend you try it again.
The place was empty. So service should have been excellent because the waitress could have focused on my table. I was with an old friend. The waitress forgets to give me my silverware. When the salads arrived she proceeded to give me and my friend the wrong salad dressing. I had ordered ranch dressing. He had ordered blue cheese. I end up with the blue cheese and he ends up with the ranch. My friend who frequences restaurant quite often and on his recommendation we had lunch here said that the waitress "was dumb as a rock". I would say is evaluation of the waitress was correct. The food was tasty.. not bad at all. But far from excellent.
I've been coming here since I was little with my family and it never disappoints. Service is amazing and the environment is perfect for a calm dinner conversation with the family or maybe even a romantic night if that's what you like. The food is delicious and the menu has a good variety. The portions are a bit big but I don't mind because we can take leftovers home to enjoy another day. It's definitely worth trying out at least once, I've been to other Italian restaurants in El Paso but this is the best one by far.
Atmosphere is odd and quite to the point where it felt uncomfortable to speak. The garlic bread was stiff and lacked any flavor. I got the combination plate and it came out with the manicotti, rigatoni, spaghetti, and ravioli lumped on top of each other, completely unable to tell what is what. The overall taste was decent, definitely less than mediocre. I ordered a glass of Moscato as well and it was VERY obvious the bottle of wine had been open for awhile by how flat it was. The price for what I was served just was not reasonable either.
Having grown-up in El Paso, I have distant memories of my mother having taken me to the Eastside location back in the 90s.I remember as a kid, absolutely just adoring this place.Fast forward several lifetimes, and I rediscovered it when my wife and I were living on the west side around ‘05ish.Have you ever had something hit your taste buds that instantly activates warm fuzzy memories in your head? Weird the way the brain is wired sometimes. But yeah, it instantly took me back to how much I loved it. Everything instantly tasted familiar. The sauce, the al dente, perfect-bite of the homemade pasta, the unique flavor of the meat in the ravioli, the incredibly awesome homemade bread that almost has a slight sweet aspect intermingling with the salty butter and garlic & Given a slight blackened crust around the edges. Like it was broiled for a bit. And then dipping said incredible homemade bread into what is quite possibly THE best marinara I have ever tasted in my life. And I’ve been to Italy.I learned much later, that something I suspected for a long time was actually rooted in reality. I always thought the sauce from Capettos tasted very similar to the sauce from Comos. Well it turns out that the same large family, at least different portions of the same large family owned both restaurants! IKR?!And the sauce, marinara & meat sauce, are variations of the same recipe.Mind blown.I guess you have to be an EP foodie of long-standing to understand.Well we ate there on a very regular basis, until such is often the case at regular intervals through all of our journeys..Life happened. To varying degrees.Fast forward as my better half & I find ourselves living on the east side for several years now, having long since forgotten Comos.Getting our Italian kicks from Trattoria on the high end, and *gasp* Olive Garden in a pinch. And of course, getting our pizza fix from Grimaldi‘s & Ardovinos. I think distinction should be made, that I mean when we`really’ feel like pizza, we would eat at those two places. But clearly, being an El Pasoan, you simply have to have your steady supply of Peter Piper for just plain scarfing occasions.Well we found ourselves running some errands & just happen to be on the west side at dinner time, with nothing pressing to do or bring us back to the east. And then we passed by a restaurant neither one of us had thought about in probs 7 or 8 years. The planets had aligned, the galaxy had spoken so we obliged the cosmic balance & decided to revisit.OMG.. tastebud activated memory flashback episode 2 much?Absolutely nothing had changed. Everything was just as incredible as I remember from those two previous points in my life. The sauce tasted exactly the same and had that divine and indescribable flavor of bold, sweet, tangy and just the absolute perfect balance of spices. And the ravioli. Just as incredible and delicious as I remember it was. Literally nothing had changed. Even the menu was the same. The decor was the same. This almost.. 80s deep dark dimly lit Italian restaurant like in the basement of a building. No windows, with just the lights from the candles & dim lamps. They even had this same deep, dark vinyl table cloths on all the tables. Serious old world vibe. So I guess depending on what you may dig in your restaurant decor, your mileage may vary in your impressions. But the food. My God the food was every bit as incredible & beyond delicious as I remember. Totally even occurred to me after I completely polished off everything, to actually lick my plate. Absolutely not joking.I was kidding with the waitress, who evidently has been working there for 17 years, that I would kill for the sauce recipe. She literally shot me this look, and then proceeded to tell me there’s absolutely no way in hell that she would ever do so. That other customers had seriously asked her for years & that she would never think about it. Ok, was kinda just joking, but that really just cemented how special this place is.Go there now! And have them put a stripe of cream sauce on top of the marina
I truly enjoy the atmosphere, service and food. The minestrone soup was delicious. The prices are very reasonable for a good tasty Italian meal, that will please the palette. It is one of the few Italian eateries that has Veal Parmigiano. The sauce on the Veal was very tasty and sauce is everything. Their coffee is awesome.
From the northeast can't find good Italian food. WELL I found Como's food was great . Will definitely make it back there again soon ! Now have to find a good pizza place.Andr
I went in with my family of 3 to dine in after lunch rush. Restaurant was half empty and I was offered the only table by the door, which was windy and cold outside and you could feel it when door would open. I asked for different table and hostess/cashier told me that was all they had available that other tables where for larger parties (again restaurant was half empty). I had to leave as I wasn’t going to sit my 6 year old by the door knowing that there were at least half of the restaurant tables available. We love the food here, however that is not the way to take care of customers.
Came here on a Thursday evening with my girlfriend. We should have known what to expect when the bread basket was filled with saltine crackers. I ordered chicken fettuccini alfredo and she ordered spaghetti with marinara sauce. Both are pretty common staples of American-Italian cuisine. Alas, the food wasn’t up to expectations. The Alfredo sauce was utterly devoid of flavor, and the small pieces of chicken appeared to have just been emptied out of a can from the grocery store. My girlfriend’s marinara had flavor, but it was a flavor familiar to anyone who has had a can of Ragu. Indeed the garlic bread was even missing garlic. The wait staff was overworked but friendly. I suspect they are understaffed, and maybe their usual food supply is hurting from the supply chain crisis. But man, this was sub par.
Como's never disappoints. Fantastic sauce. As authentic Italian as you'll find. Staff is always courteous. A great date night spot. Quiet and romantic
