Korean Bubble Tea Chicken Wings

There is so much potential for this restaurant. I'm not quite sure if they are going out of business or what. I came in on 6/5/22 and the male walking around in socks and flip flops was a complete moron. The only requirement to get hired here is breathing.I ate the Bulgogi rice bowl 4 out of 10. It was cheap shaved beef.My woman had cauliflower chicken and it was 7/10.What is the deal with all the clutter everywhere? It doesn't take an Einstein to realize someone needs to clean up and organize. The boxes everywhere, stuff all over the counters, the racks filled with supplies all exposed where customers can see.Management, Owners, Supervisor, etc... need to get this place in shape before the business flops. Clearly the owners don't care.Stop handing out those cheap menus with covers from a 3 ring binder. Have customers click on a QR code.If you want to order food from here, do yourself a favor and order TO GO!

The Gist: 1 StarGangnam Chicken is situated in what some call a cursed location, a spot that churns a cycle of failing businesses, on the corner of 321 W. Hickory Street. Gangnam Chicken seeks to break that cycle with an offering of Korean fried chicken and bibimbap. In 2021 it received the Best Wings award from the “Best of Denton” put on by the Denton Record Chronicle. A casual look at their website shows you professional photographs of some tasty meals.Immediately upon entering Gangnam Chicken you are greeted by what can only be described as a confused mess. The walls are painted a clinical grayish white that is neither inviting or pleasing to the eye. Decor would be welcome but are absent from most walls, lending to the clinical feel. Mesh screens cover the windows and dim the much needed natural light. It’s unclear if it operates as a counter order fast casual, or full service restaurant. Thankfully a sign at the front tells you to wait to be seated. A server came and sat me quickly.Walking through the place you can see all the cutting of corners in every way. The tables and chairs seem like an afterthought. They are, to say the least, dingy. The sort you would find at a wholesale warehouse for soon to be failed businesses. I ordered the original fried chicken wings as well as parmesan truffle fries. While waiting I couldn’t help to notice the unswept floor, the food items and general restaurant ware being stored in the hallway to the restroom and along some of the walls of the dining room. There was a distinctive lack of energy/excitement that would draw someone back to a spot like this. One assumes that to open a restaurant is to have a vision that you are excited about executing. None of that happened here. The food came out 20 minutes after ordering, quite awhile considering how empty the place was. Still I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt, but all that was erased as the food was placed in front of me. First off any pictures you may see on their website is certainly not from their kitchen. It seems that whoever made their website put up images of other restaurants food. A deceitful bait and switch. One can only imagine how this restaurant won “Best Wings.” Perhaps the Denton Record Chronicle would like to come try these for themselves? The sauce was almost sickly sweet with no hint of any type of spices that one would expect from a Korean sauce. The quality of the wings is what I would expect from the ready made take out area of Walmart. Fatty, underdone, and virtually tasteless. The boneless wings were better, but the issue here was the size of each “wing”; too large and unwieldy. The portion may seem like you are getting your moneys worth, but the size means there is a lot of unflavored and unseasoned meat underneath the overly sweet outside. The fries are reminiscent of fries you would get at a high school football game. Obviously frozen, and seasoned minimally. For the price you would thing they would have the tenacity to make these in house, but as everything else in this restaurant you are left underwhelmed and unsatisfied.I went back a few days later and tried their most popular milk tea (Thai Tea) with boba. The tea was very much under steeped, and the cheap quality of the boba was apparent in its gumminess. In this too they failed to care about any aspect of how it should properly be done.Do yourself a favor and avoid this place, spend your money somewhere better until they figured out a clear vision for this brand. To the owners of Gangnam Chicken, please stop the bait and switch use of the pictures online and in store, have the courage to show what you actually sell. This city needs a great Korean chicken concept, sadly this is not it.

The customer experience was average at best. They don’t have regular plates and utensils, so the only use plastic cups. They have a tray for a plate, and they don’t even pour the water for you; you have to do it yourself! There is so much clutter in the back. The menu’s looked like they’re on a budget because they come in a plastic protective wrap. They don’t have handkerchiefs and instead they use low-quality paper. The food wasn’t WOW! The lemonade looked too yellow to be natural, and one sip got my stomach aching. I ordered wings, but they don’t have regular barbecue sauce or even buffalo. This food might even got my stomach sick. The only good thing was that it wasn’t too expensive, but it did not deliver a fancy restaurant experience like I wanted to.

Yummy food! Great service and something different for Denton☺️

Sooooo good! And even with being short staffed service was great and still pretty fast. I recommend trying the rice bowl and the wings!

The servers were comically overwhelmed by the 6 people there. The food was poorly made, a fact that the chef attempted to cover up with hot sauce. The best thing I can say was that the portions were (thankfully) smaller then expected. Also, it’s 2022. They clearly have a washing machine back there somewhere. Why was most of my food served on disposable dishes?!

The food here was so good. When we first can in the service was a little slow. But it did get better. The egg rolls was so crispy and good.

Wings were delicious!! I wasn't a fan of the Gangnam Sauce on the chicken but it was still pretty good. The Parmesan Truffle fries were ??? too

I only went there because someone was raving about their wings. Well let me just say they lied. It must have been one of the owners. Anyway, I ordered one order of basic wings and a salad with chicken. I waited for almost an hour for some VERY over cooked cold wings and the chicken that was in the salad was to hard to cut with a knife. My dog even had a problem chewing them. I will never go there again. I should have known how the experience would be when I walked in and there was no overwhelming smell of chicken wings being cooked. Don't waste your time or money.
