The service from "Wild Bill" was good, although not expecting a 20% gratuity added to 6 people. Oh well, she received a VERY nice tip from me. As for the ribeye, seeing it with my own eyes, it was more like a rib. A good bit of gristle, tasty fat, and decent beef. If you want a CHEAP steak, I suppose that the Legend of Dunston's will suffice. I am debating whether Outback is better, and I am not certain, as Outback is not too good either. I can do a slab of meat and a potato only on my plate at home, and that is just fine. However meat and spud on a white plate with no garnish, well, I go back to cheap steak. Humbly speaking, I would rather pay more for better and get more than I received at Dunston's. I am sorry to say this, but your hard earned money can be spent elsewhere for a better meal.
For a steak house and the pricing I expected better cuts and sides. The loaded baked potato was a joke, imitation bacon bits to begin with, butter, sour cream and chives served in a thimble. The bone in rib-eye was an absolute disgrace; it had a bone, but not a full bone that added the flavor to which you spend the extra money for. Other customers were on their phones around us, on speaker without regard of others around them and when brought up to the server our complaints were ignored. Will not be back, definitely not worth the money.
We went for nostalgic reasons. Both my husband and I went there as children with our parents. It was just the same as I remembered, forty years ago! It was a nice experience for us and our children. However, the steak was just not as good as I remembered and the service was slow. It was Father's Day weekend and they were much busier than normal our waitress told us. It was good....not great, but brought back some good memories and made for some very good conversation!
This was our first visit and since it is quite a drive we feel it not worth the drive. But if we lived closer we would go back. The food was pretty good. And the service was okay. It was my birthday and they didnât offer me anything like free Desert. That was disappointing.
Food was very good and tasty. The service was impeccable. The atmosphere was quite and amiable.
For folks that like food cooked over a mesquite fire, you'll be satisfied. The very strong mesquite smell and flavor on my rib eye steak was overpowering and not to my liking. In addition the spinach was extremely salty. The baked potato, house salad and homemade key lime pie were good. The interior of the restaurant is large, cowboy rustic, clean and comfortable. Unfortunately, I won't be returning...
The charcoal steak and salmon, even the hamburger was perfect. Large baked potato done exactly right.
It was my first time at Dunstonâs and I am very impressed with their food and service. I will definitely go back there again.
Looks old. Service was forgetful but friendly. Steaks were not at the level of Dallas’s top steakhouses but you get what you pay for.
We entered Dunston’s and were promptly seated. We ordered cocktails and an appetizer which both arrived quickly. Our waitress was very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. She described the menu with passion including her recommendations. We enjoyed perfectly cooked filet’s with sides, delicious salads and home made desserts. Everything was excellent! Our night was capped off by a visit from 92 year old Mr. Dunston who stopped in at 9:30 pm to “close up”. He greeted every table in the restaurant and thanked us for coming in. Dunston’s is a great choice for mesquite grilled Texas steaks!
