I'd like to say I've had worse BBQ, but I don't think I have. Could have just been an off day, but the brisket, ribs and pulled pork I got were all covered in creosote due to poor fire management. Super bitter, and left my mouth almost totally numb. Could have been an off day, but I dunno if I'll be back.Ribs were cooked really well, just full of creosote.Brisket could have been rested longer, it was a little tough, but the fat was rendered well.Pulled pork was cooked perfect, but the bark was full of bitter creosote.Mac and Cheese was great, outside of the (I'm guessing) brisket fat full of creosote added to it that made it bitter.Beans were the best thing I had that day next to the BBQ sauce.

I honestly don't know how this place gets such good reviews. It was seriously the worst BBQ I've ever had. The smoke is super dirty, so all the meat was covered in gritty, horribly tasting bark. The meat itself was pretty good, the ribs and brisket were tender. But the outside parts of the meat just weren't edible.I'm pretty sure they take the rendered brisket fat and pour it in the mac and cheese. It's super greasy, and has that horrible burnt creosote flavor. It was not edible. I took 2 bites and threw it away. The potato salad was mayo-heavy, which I don't like, but is a personal preference.We spent $55 for 2 2-meat plates and 2 drinks, which is pretty standard for BBQ. It was just so disappointing, and I left hungry.
A total mess!! I paid $28 dollars and change for a two meat plate that would not even fill up one person. I didn’t mind paying the price that he told me at the window, but when I drove off and parked in the Ace parking lot to look at my brisket and sausage plate as well as have a sample,….. total disappointment. Not only was the portion the smallest I’d ever seen on a two meat plate and the price being the most expensive, …THE TASTE , it was not the best by any means. I suddenly remembered why it had been years since I’d been to this place, dispite living only about 7 minutes from here. I mean I would actually make the drive to go to a Rudy’s chain location. BUT If are looking for some great BBQ and have the time to make a drive, Ray’s BBQ Shake on O.S.T has never let me down and also has other great reviews to back it up. I REALLY wish we had GREAT BBQ in our area. If I’m overlooking somewhere that does serve great bbq in the Cypress area, please let me know. Don’t mind paying a little more than usual if the food (and service)is great.
First off, I was shocked when I read another reviewer give a review based solely on looking at Brooks Place without ever tasting a bite of their food. Believe my reviews or not but please, never ever trust a reviewer who never tasted the food. I've consistently had much better food at what some may call dumps than at fancy restaurants. That said, I came across Brooks Place early one morning while at Ace Hardware. There was a food trailer w a stack of firewood and smoker in the lot and a wonderous smell emanating from it. A wk later i returned with my wife to the same great smell to order lunch. My wife ordered the brisket sandwich and I had the rib platter. Mine came w 2 sides: I got baked beans and Mac n cheese. We brought our treasures home, about a 20 min drive. Our bag included 2 cups of homemade sauce, napkins, plastic utensils and a baggie w pickles and pickles red onions! Everything was still hot. The brisket sandwich had thick but oh so tender pieces of brisket on a burger bun. She added some sauce, the pickled onions and pickles. It was delicious. My pork ribs, 3 big thick ones, were some of the best i ever had in texture and flavor but frankly i expect that. What was unexpected was the excellent quality of the mac n cheese and beans. Sadly many places think of sides as more of an after thought. These were every bit as good as the meats and the meats were very very good! I place Books w my other favorite bbq joints: The Rib Co by Joshua Tree Park in CA and McGonagles in Kansas City. Brooks taste is spicy but not hot, everything is full of flavor. Added little details like the pickled red onions are tantamount to genius. Yes, this is a trailer, not a restaurant. There are some picnic tables and you are in a parking lot. Who cares? This is bbq of the highest order.
