Everything was good the food was fast. The store is very cute.
We drove around the area to find a locally owned breakfast place. What's up with Corpus???Three places permanently closed, and we ended up at the Cracker Barrel. Totally worth it!!The bisquits are freshly baked, the pancakes are almost as good as my mom's, the sausage yummy, yummy. Coffee, pretty good.Service was outstanding. Speacially considering the place had been already packed for several hours on Sunday morning. Please, be considerate with servers and tip them well. What goes around, comes around. ?
Unfortunately, we came in early and was seated in a section that only had one server. She was overwhelmed and we didn’t get attention.Disappointing experience. Seems like management may be slacking.
First, I have to say we're not fans of breakfast. It's okay, but lunch and dinner is where the good food is. The chicken fried steak is good, but their fried chicken is the real deal. Breading has good crunch and spice. The mashed potatoes and dumplings sides were also to match. Definitely recommended for a chain in Corpus. Service has been spotty; the waitress totally forgot we asked for a box...she had a deer in the headlights look most times.
My wife and I had a gift card to Cracker Barrel, so we finally went. The ambience and service were very good, but the food was just okay. The Chicken Fried Steak was a bit more than okay, but the killer was the cold, congealed creamed gravy which was lumpy and bland. My wife had the meatloaf, and while the meat was okay, her green beans were unremarkable and she had the same issue with the gravy on her mashed potatos.
Absolutely the worst! Save your money and seriously upgrade your dining experts at MCD! Waitress brings biscuits and corn muffins. No butter, no jelly, no silverware, so we ask for these things. Then she brings food about five minutes later. Pancakes for me, French toast for the wife. No silverware, no butter, no syrup, no milk. We ask the waitress again for silverware and the other missing items (BTW the food is already cold when she brought it out), after 5 minutes and no waitress, I and get the manager. By the time he shows up and we walk back to the table (about 3 more minutes) there still is no silverware or any of the other items. He says he'll look into it. About 3 minutes long and he and the waitress bring us silverware (still no butter, no syrup. The food is ice cold by now. No apologies, no discounts, nothing. Don't eat there, the are horrible!!! It wasn't even busy and they had staff standing around doing nothing. I will never go back to this one!
You can't beat the roast beef plate. Is so tender and juicy it almost melts in your mouth. this is the item I usually order, but I have eaten other things there and they are just as good. The only complaint that I might have is the waitress or waiter need to come back by the table and check your drinks instead of me having to send for them that does affect my tipping mood.
Cracker Barrel used to be so fresh and delicious... This is the third time in a row that they have let us down. My order was wrong, my waitress was non-existent except for taking and delivering our order, my food was cold and poorly cooked. It's a shame that the only reason anyone should go here is for the shopping side. Otherwise, I honestly wouldn't waste my time or money eating at a restaurant that cares so little about quality and good service.
Well, we are still recovering from the second varient of the covid pandemic and labor shortages are widespread, so I'm going easy on my review. There are so many opportunities for improvement, but in the end, the food was good. I had the Maple Bacon Chicken breasts with mashed potatoes and fried okra, and added the Barrel Bites as a starter (tater tots topped with bacon & grated cheese) as a starter. This is of course a large chain, so I'm not really expecting hand crafted recipes and elegant presentation. Good experience overall. But let's cover the bad news. We arrived at 7pm, and the tables were more than half empty. All the unoccupied tables were clean, so it wasn't like they just had a huge rush and were catching up. There were 2-3 other parties waiting, and the hostess said the wait was 20 minutes. They call your name & text when your table is ready. Twenty minutes came & went. The store area / lobby was filling up, and there were 10-15 parties waiting. At 33 minutes, we were seated, but the wait actually continued at the table. Our server had 4 tables, and wasn't visibly busy but seemed frazzled. After 10+ minutes of looking at the menus we received from the hostess, our server stopped by to say she'd be right back to take our order. Not sure where she was spending all her time. Five minutes later she returned & took our order. She was nice and and unhurried. Two of the other four tables were seated before us and didn't have their food yet. When she returned with our drinks, she said the food was actually coming right out. Some time later, she stopped at the table next to us and made some apologies about why they didn't have their food yet. We waited patiently. The table next to us (family of 7) finally got their food in waves over the next several minutes. We got one refill of drinks, but no food yet. Guess ours wasn't really "coming right out", or maybe it was plated & just not served, because after another 5-10 minutes, a food runner brought ours out. It was missing the Barrel Bites, which I asked about & the food runner looked at the ticket, acknowledged the miss & apologized because it obviously wasn't going to be a starter now. Our food looked great but was only luke warm. Our server came by a few minutes later with the Barrel Bites and apologized. They were so not hot that the grated cheese didn't even pretend to melt. But it's been over an hour now and we're going to eat, finally. Service continued to be sparse, no more refills, and the check was dropped off with no ask about dessert. If all the tables were full & people were running around like crazy, these delays would have been understandable. We were polite, tipped nicely, and didn't complain. You get four stars because I'm being patient and tolerant. And deep down, even though I don't like chains, there's something cozy about Cracker Barrel you just want to love.
Not a happy camper tonight. Dinner at this restaurant was a big disappointment. My chicken pot pie was sorely lacking in seasoning. Plenty hot but tasteless. My hubby had the Cracker Barrel Favs. The ham was dry - really dry, the chicken dumplings were tasteless and the side of fries undercooked. The waitress sent them back and the replacements still came back undercooked. We told her again but she just said sorry. It seems the oil was not hot enough as the fries were full of oil. We mentioned this to the cashier who said too bad and made no adjustment to the bill.So other than the biscuits and coffee which were truly excellent, and the reason for 2 stars I will not ever be back.
