Just moved to the area. Was told this was the best BBQ in Houston. Southern home cooking at its best. We'll the hospitality left me hoping this isn't the best Texas has to offer. Mac n cheese was bland, canned green beans with no seasoning to speak of. The fench fries had absolutely no salt at all.. Please cooks don't be afraid to season the food! The fried okra is the best thing they had, hands down. I could come here just for this and nothing else. And the only reason my review isn't one star..Let's talk about the reason you come here.. The meat! I ordered the chopped brisket and chicken. The Brisket was nothing to write home about. Heavily sauced and no real meaty or smoky taste that I could taste. I'll get to the chicken.. Since other people in my party ordered ribs and sausage. The sausage was OK, but again nothing memorable. The ribs were dry and were not very flavorful at all.. Again no smoky flavor. And then the chicken.. They forgot to bring me my chicken. I reached for the Louisiana hot sauce and realized there's no chicken to put this on.. So I walk back inside and point out that they forgot my chicken.. The girl behind counter apologized and said they would bring it right out.. I waited 10 minutes, nothing, 20 minutes, the rest of my party is finishing their food. A server came out to check on us and I again pointed out that I still hadn't received my chicken. He came back about 5 minutes later to tell me they had neglected to put in my order for chicken twice.. About ten minutes later I received the hottest and dryest chicken I've ever had. Did they microwave my Texas BBQ? I can't be sure but for sure I won't be going back to try it again.. Southern hospitality? I guess they don't do that either!
This was good bbq joint. The meat was well cooked and their sauce was quite tasty. I wish the fries had been warmer when they came and their mac and cheese was pretty bland. If you are there for the meat and the atmosphere, this a great option.
The Ham and Okra were good. The Brisket and sausage was below average. The mac and cheese tasted like plastic. The "smoked" turkey was rubbery, old, and bland. Week old Thanksgiving turkey has better flavor. If you want Good barbecue don't go here. The staff was also kind of rude.

Visiting from Canada and loved this place, the atmosphere was awesome, it really gave me a Texas feel. And the food was fantastic. Highly recommend the potato balls.
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Food was terrible I got the chicken fried chicken the gravy was great but the chicken had NO flavor. There were knats all over the soda machine. (I've worked in the industry before and this is due to not cleaning properly) Some lady had her dog inside and her dog was walking all over the table brushing up against the paper towels salt and pepper everything. The girl working pet the dog and went right back to work with out washing her hands. I know I'm not the only person who witnessed this as I heard other people talking about it. Will never return here for the over priced food and unclean environment. DO NOT GO HERE!!! SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!
I have been coming here often for the past few years and have always been satisfied. The baked potato is my favorite out of all the other restaurants. Every time I go the meat always taste fresh and the potato is fresh as well. The burger is very bland and taste like a frozen Patty. We love Vernon's the food is always great and so is the service. There was just one down fall, they keep peanuts on the table which is fine but when cleaning the tables (which you leave your shells on the table) the girls picked the unopened peanuts up and put them back in the buckets. Yuk
Loaded back potato is the best I've had in the area! Great portion size. More than happy to give extra sour cream and cheese.The only thing I have to say is their side choices are plentiful; however, the mac n cheese and green beans lack flavor (perhaps that is just me which is why I still gave them 5 stars). Leaving this review on a positive note their meats and sauce are killer!
I had the ribs and brisket, both were tender and smoked to perfection. My wife got a chopped beef sandwich with mac and cheese on the side. she stated that it was good and flavorful..
