Its a very boring place the atmosphere and gray walls do not give you any kind of emotion the food is expensive for how good it really is I would not recommend it for a date
Food at SOTO is superb. Expertly prepared and beautifully presented. All foods are fresh and what is supposed to be cold is cold, and what should be hot is hot. Service by knowledgeable staff is top drawer. The atmosphere at SOTO is one of relaxation. Take your time and enjoy your meal. No rush. Whatever you order will be delicious, including the excellent green tea and the wonderful green tea ice cream for dessert. Sake? A fine selection is available by the glass, carafe or bottle. We highly recommend SOTO. You will enjoy SOTO as much as we do.
The sushi at Soto is good and creative, but a bit overpriced frankly. I had a $28 roll that was definitely good, but I've had better for less. The shape of the 2 up tables puts you far away from your dining partner so you have to speak up. The guy next to you is closer than your date. The lighting is terrible, and there were gnats buzzing around.
We were disappointed that there were items missing on the menu. The room we were seated in was quite warm and humid. The quality of the sushi was okay, nothing overly special. There was also some miscommunication with the wait staff regarding some our orders. We had previously been impressed with Soto, however I think it will be sometime before we return following this latest visit.
I chose Soto as my birthday dinner option, and mentioned it in the reservation notes. No mention from any server of a happy birthday or anything but thatâs okay. The food all came out quickly, the salted Edamame was delicious and arrived steaming to the table. The cocktails are all amazing- but the watermelon sake-tini was not quite what we expected. No watermelon flavor, but good citrus sake flavor. We got the White Tiger roll and the Land and Sea roll. Both were great, super fresh and lots of flavor. The Land and Sea was spicier than my husband expected but I loved it. The White Tiger roll was so light and fresh, I wanted to order a second one but was too full! The chocolatini cocktail was my favorite drink. We finished off dinner with the Stout Cheesecake- it was fantastic. Light and flavorful- delicious ice cream to go with. I do think the cocktails are overpriced for what they are, and the sushi is more in the expensive side ($25 for the Land and Sea Rollâ¦) but the food was good. The atmosphere was okay, nice noise levels but tables are close together so we heard most of our next table neighbors convo because they were loud talkers. My only complaint of the night was our pushy server. She brought us our check before we were ready (we wanted another round of drinks first, but she didnât even ask). Before we finished those she brought us again our check, and throughout the meal we were asked multiple times if they could take dishes (which is fine, but they even asked to take a dish we still had a piece of sushi left and hadnât been sitting there long). The place was more than half empty when we left (2 hours before closing) so it wasnât like anyone was waiting for our table. Patience would have been appreciated instead of feeling rushed to get out. I think for the price and service Iâd prefer elsewhere, but overall happy with the flavor of food and drinks here.
It was great, Eddie took great care of us, food was delicious as well as the sake. Will def go back! Also the chef special vegetarian sushi was amazing!
Date night during happy hour. Ordered 9 different items along with 3 appetizers and they're sparkling cold sake. We particularly like the salmon truffle dish and ordered it again. Tried 2 new items for us - loved them both. I don't recall any of the dish names but, seriously, anything on the menu is top quality and enjoyable if you like sushi. We always enjoy it, have our fill and between my wife and I get out of there for about 170 including 20% tip. Highly recommend. And they really appreciate when you have reservations...
Food is amazing
Best sushi experience in Austin. I've been to soto 60+ times and the quality of sushi and all the other dishes including desserts is consistently excellent
The Chefs Omakase what absolutely incredible.
