Although the name is Mi Casa Tamales, I have found that the best thing they offer is the family packs of either beef or chicken verde enchiladas or fajitas. I don't have a lot of experience elsewhere on family packs, but I do know based on restaurant prices for enchiladas or fajitas for two, it is quite the deal and really, really tasty with fresh warm tortillas. From the rice, beans, queso, guacamole, all the sides/garnishes are tasty, with the expectation that the queso is more like Velveeta (but addictive!) and the rice can be a little bland. I also noticed their chips were inconsistent, sometimes tasting homemade and other times tasting wholesale. Salsa at a Mexican joint is always important and theirs is the savory vibrant raw kind that we could all eat a tub of in 5 mins. The borracho beans are also on point; I'll order extra sometimes to have them as a comforting soup by themself. I like that the beef enchiladas have more of a traditional adobo-like dark gravy, not that thin light gravy you get sometimes even in the nicer restaurants. It can be a tad spicy though but has a mouth-watering flavor and usually palatable for anyone who's sensitive to spice, especially with rice and tortillas. And, the enchiladas are consistently LOADED with cheese and plump with meat filling that's flavorful without being greasy. While these things kept me coming back for weekend family take-outs, two major disappointments have been the King Ranch Chicken casserole and the tamales. Now, the tamales are tasty, but they are expensive for not being exceptional (especially from a "tamal place"). My favorite many years ago was always the green chicken, but in recent history the chicken has seemed drier and tougher, and so my favorite became the pork. The sell hot and frozen tamales and I'm pretty sure when business is slow or they run out of hot they microwave frozen (so FYI on that). Moreover, on two occasions there was some type of foreign material in a tamal I ate. Who knows if I or other family members swallowed anything else before I noticed it. One time it looked like a piece of wax paper. Another time it was a piece of clear plastic bag with a red stripe, the type of crinkly material you see corn chips or chalupa shells sold in. I will say that they (Faith et al) handled the first refund immediately and were apologetic. But after the second time biting into something, I didn't bother calling and just made my mind up that I wasn't playing Russian roulette with my digestion anymore - sticking to fajitas and enchiladas. If those weren't great I would've stopped going. The pan of King Ranch Chicken casserole was dis-gusting. I don't know if this was a previously frozen batch, but it had the texture of pig slop, with no other flavor besides watered-down melted bagged cheese. I cringed and shuttered for awhile after trying a bowl because it left such a gross feeling from the texture of a sloppy goo of wet tortilla chips and watery sauce. If they could get it right, the quantity and price are a great offer - King Ranch Chicken is supposed to be a crowd pleaser! Our crowd just got grossed out by it. But to reiterate, go for the enchilada and/or fajita family packs. They really are bomb and a great deal! Faith who worked the front counter/phone, including through the last year or more of the pandemic, has been such a sweet person to interact with and very detail-oriented and communicative. I haven't been in awhile and yet my whole family remembers her name because we liked how she handled our, at one point, weekly orders. So we definitely appreciated the great customer service and never having to worry about that. Really does make the difference, and my 3-star rating is split between her and the family dinners. :-)
My family and friends have been going to this nice spot for about 5 years. Kids love it and the food pairs well with the margaritas. Great place for a get together.
Cozy little hole in the wall that can be easily missed. Do not pass this place up! The food is phenomenal!! One of my favorite late lunch spots in town!
Great food and great place, had a reunion there 150 people
Always great food, helpful staff and welcoming vibe. The party room is a fun private area to host events, birthdays or group gatherings. Play areas for the kids, periodic live music, shaded areas, plenty of seating all contribute to a wonderful outdoor experience.
Best place to hang out with family and friends!! Food is so yummy too!!!
Tamales ? are great ?? and the outdoor dining was great ?
Tamales are fantastic. Borracho beans decent. Queso is stadium food queso vs traditional South Texas melty goodness.
Love the outdoor experience. Great food. Exceptional service.
Excellent tamales. Order ahead to ensure you get what you want.
