I loved that this was not a fast food dining experience. Orders are dropped as the come in from the dining room and car hop stalls. Fries aren't sitting under heat lamps. My onion rings were freshly hot, as was my corn dog. I also appreciated that they let me order a kid's meal and substitute the fries for those onion rings. My chocolate malt was a little loose, but had a great malted flavor. I am very excited to discover this malt--the ones in this 20 mile radius do NOT compare. You have officially won a malt fan!I can see why Top Notch has survived so long in Austin. I'm excited to have finally found them!
An Austin mainstay since 1971. I've lived in Austin now for almost 5 years and only came here once before today. It was when I first moved here, got the food to go, and drove 20 miles home to cold food.Came again today with the kids and I wish I hadn't waited so long to come back. We, my two son, daughter and myself, all really enjoyed our food. I had the Longhorn Special (with no changes) and onion rings. One of my son's had the Top Pick, the other son had the cheeseburger and my daughter had a kids cheeseburger. All my kids gave Top Notch 5 stars. My burger was cooked perfectly, the beef itself was juicy and tender. The charcoal grilled flavor really shined through, even my kids noticed it. The service was friendly, the dining room as clean, and the only potential negative was the shake machine was indeed broken (insert McDonald's meme). That one issue wasn't enough to reduce my 5 star rating.I'll return far more often now.
Delicious food in a fun historic establishment. Stopped by here for lunch with 2 families while on Spring Break. Service was friendly and fast, and the food was very tasty.
Don't forget this place folks. They have the best hot Fried Chicken. Charbroiled burgers you can see the flames from outside. And they have the cutest kids meal served in cardboard boxes in the shape of muscle cars! Don't let this place go out of business!
Old school dinning. Clean, dinner style. Also has ordering bays like Sonic. This place is a classic. Cheese burgers and french fries were really good. Fried chicken dinner was bland. Sweet potato fries were yummy. You can eat for 2 people here for about $15-17 dollars. They also prepare take out orders. Sweet location on South Lamar ?
Top Notch definitely has the backyard burger flavor. Some love it- others don’t. To me, the charcoal broiled burger had more of a lighter fluid flavor, but was pretty traditional tasting. The prices didn’t seem bad at first, but once I realized the combos sit. come with fries or a drink, added up quickly (think $11+ to start). It’s an iconic spot and it’s Austin so I get it. But otherwise, I’d rather pay a visit to Whataburger.
Alright alright alright.... From the movie dazed and confused. Drive inn open. Walk inn open... Burger was 10x better than mcShatnolds. $5.50. Highly recommend for 70's style inside. Brick n chandelier. Kind employees.
I really enjoyed the burgers here. Super good food and not expensive. I can see why it is a favorite in Austin. We will definitely be going back and can't wait to try the other stuff on their menu. You can eat inside or outside. You also have an option to order from your car and eat in your car. Kinda like Sonic's but with a different feel to it.
After ordering a corn dog and a chicken tender meal. I sat in the parking lot for 1/2 hr waiting. I look around and notice cars that got there after me had left with their food. I Pushed the button on the menu to ask if I still had an order coming. Someone mumbled something so I got up and walked to the door where the employees are bringing out the food. As I am knocking a women comes out of the doors to the dining room asking if she can help me. I inquire about my food and I am told nothing I see them inside frantically looking for my order I hear the woman say repeat my order though I had not told it to her. I stood outside the doors no one communicates anything to me. I understand things happen just tell me hey we messed up we will have that out in a minute. Well I guess I didn’t need a corn dog. I asked twice for a status on my order. Well guess I am leaving 1/2 hr of my life I will never get back.
Local and always to order. Also in several movies but regardless the food is great. Car shows are fun too but get the longhorn special! If you haven't been, it'd be a lot cooler if you did.
