The hype is real. The BBQ is outstanding and it helps that the service is very friendly and welcoming. We will be back and will be recommending.
I've lived in Austin for 16+yrs now and I treat myself to Terry B's 3 or 4 times annually. I'm always blown away by the consistency of the food and service that's provided. This review in particular however, is directed more so towards a particular staff member by the name of Zulmy. I feel as though every single time I visit Terry Black's, Zulmy is ALWAYS there with not only a terrific smile on her face-- but a sense of urgency and awareness that is superior to nearly everyone else. She always makes the best recommendations and also exceeds my expectations EVERY-SINGLE-TIME that I'm in the restaurant. An employee of this caliber deserves an acknowledgment that is not only observed by a simple review (such as this one), but on a daily basis by the rest of her staff and certainly her superiors!! The food is always wonderful... but the service provided by Zulmy is Tip-Top and most certainly worthy of every, single, one of the 5+ Stars I'm giving her in this (albeit simple) review!! Hope to see you all & Zulmy again very soon!! -Cheers, Brandon D.
This is a fun experience and probably my favorite meal of the whole trip. Take your time to really read through the menus and signs in the restaurant before you go up to order. The price is determined by the weight of the meat. You start by picking up your sites first and these are a flat rate based on size pint quart etc. I recommend not skipping the macaroni it was excellent. We started with a brisket and I added a jalapeno cheddar sausage and was not disappointed. My colleague had the rib it was massive but so good. We all upgraded our sides to a quart and we're able to share the sides with each other that would be one recommendation.
Authentic! Texas bbq, great atmosphere, and great customer service.
Mediocre BBQ at best. Everything was very bland with barely any smoke flavor. Best thing we got was the potato salad.
This was was really good. The staff was very nice especially because there’s a system here and it was our first time. It was pricey for the two of us, $135.00 but we got a lot of food (pictured below)
Great place to eat. Bring a big wallet though. A family meal for six was $200
We were recommended Terry Blacks BBQ for our visit to Austin and it did not disappoint! When we went, it was a relatively early weekday dinner so the line wasn’t too long, though my cousin said at its peak the line extends out the door. We ordered sides first and then proceeded to the meats, which are sold by the pound. Indoor seating was filled so we headed outdoors and it was pretty comfortable despite the summer heat. The brisket and beef ribs were very tender, seasoned well with a rich, hearty flavor. Sausage was flavorful as well. As for sides, the mac and cheese tasted good. Cornbread was alright, didn’t stand out. Bread and pickles came complimentary with the meal, and the staff was very generous with getting them for us. The bread was especially essential, as the food—especially the green beans and meats—could taste a bit too salty by themselves.Overall, the price was on the higher side, but nonetheless worth the experience.
Super solid BBQ experience! We came on a Friday morning and got in at 11ish without too much of a line and got our food super quick.Good:Fun experience going through the ordering and so much food! Portions are huge for the price you pay. We got 1 lbs of both the pork ribs and the brisket - I liked the pork ribs more since they had a lot of flavor but also both were good and they even give you complimentary bread to soak up some of the flavor.I also really liked the side dishes - my fave were probably the creamed corn and the mac and cheese - just overall already so solid dishes. The cornbread muffin was good too, but it crumbled super easily so it was hard to eat.The seating area is huge so no problem in finding a place to sit. The staff was also really nice.Bad:Just really noisy place so you can't hear people too well over all the chatter.Overall super fun place and will definitely come back! Loved how much the experience was made efficient and the lines went by so quick.
The place was great however and a big however before you go get online and read the menu five times before you go in. Once you go in you were herded like cattle through the line and there’s no turning back. We went in for a couple sandwiches and somehow by the end we hit $177 for a family plate and a beef rib. Lots of hype on the beef rib but I can honestly tell you it is not worth $50 a pound. We had 11 people in 2 groups, and everyone agreed the brisket was the star of the show only one person said they would try the beef rib again. The brisket was absolutely perfect and the turkey was very good. We had 5 people in our group and we still had leftovers.
