This is literally what the food looks like when we done with it. This is the most distasteful Ethiopian food I ever had. A big apologies to my other Americans who is not an actual Ethiopian, I promise this is not what our Ethiopian food test like. This is really Horrible. And for the owner, you should at least try to hire someone who actually can cook. You should not be the one who owns and cook the same time. Looks only are not the deal here, the actual test is very important. For your sake and the business pls try to give a spare of time and space for improvement. For me it was a waste of $69 but I did tipped $10 not because I actually eat the food but the server was very nice.
I don't get to try West African food very often, so when I found Taste of Ethiopia, I knew I had to try it. It was located on the ground floor of an apartment block. Parking was a bit tight. I walked into the restaurant after 1130 and was told they didn't open until noon. They let me sit at one of the tables to wait. The place is quite large, but the tables were spread giving everyone plenty of space. At 5 to 12 my server told me the kitchen was open and he could take my order. I wanted to try a bit of everything so I ordered the Appetizer Combination, not realising it was for 2. I asked my server not to serve me that much and cut back on the order. Even though he told me I still had to pay full price, I told him no problem (the price was reasonable). The dish did not take long to come out. It consisted of Sambusa, Azila (pronounced azefa), and Tomato Salad. You can order different fillings for the sambusa, I got both of mine with beef. The ground beef was moist but a tad bland. The red chili sauce on the side helped. The pastry was thinner than a samosa, but very crispy and not oily at all, very tasty. The azila was a lentil mixture that was very well spiced and spreadable. I was hoping to get it with the famous injera (bread) but had to settle for pita slices. The pita was not like the soft pita from the Middle East, it was slightly fried, and firm enough to spread the azila. Funnily enough, the spiciest dish was the tomato salad. The finely sliced jalapeño (think that's more Texas than Ethiopia) contributed to that. Everything in the salad was so fresh that it was the great accompaniment to both the other dishes. Except for the cottage cheese, the salad was my big hit. My iced tea was slightly spiced and very refreshing. This is definitely a place I would return to
Had a lentil veggie and a ground meat dish. Enjoyed both. Service was a bit slow at first (hardly anyone there on a Fri at 6 and saw customers leave because of this). But friendly staff and pleasant atmosphere.
This is my 1st time meeting with Ethiopian cuisine. The ambience was wonderful, comma the food was wonderful and the service was wonderful. I would definitely go back...
I never stay for coffee and dessert but felt so taken care of by the staff I let myself indulge. Highly recommend as a date night. The food sharing experience is delightful. Also has a nice selection of vegetarian options so your veggie friends won’t feel dissed with a side salad.
Honestly this was one of my favorite dining experiences in Austin so far. The food was so flavorful and delicious and our server Miriam (the sister of the owner) was so sweet, helpful, fun, and just a great host. I can’t wait to come back!
Vegetarian sampler was DELICIOUS (not spicy). Even brought the other half home to SF and partner said it was still tasty even though the injera was soggy. Service was very attentive and iced tea was delightfully spiced and unsweetened - just what I wanted.
We had the pleasure of eating at Taste of Ethiopia II on Friday night. We started off by ordering the beef Sambusa, they were flaky and perfectly seasoned. Since we had a group with two vegetarians, we ordered the Ultimate Combo with extra split peas and cabbage. We also had an order of Lamb Tibbs and Doro Wot. Everything was outstanding and we did not have one piece of food left on the platter- hence no photo of the food. But be sure that the food was well presented and explained as it was served to us.While the staff was a little slower than other restaurants, they completely make up for it with their friendliness and recommendations. Both our server, a St. Edwards student from Kenya, and the owner’s sister were so kind and amazing. We loved them to pieces and cannot wait to come back to try other dishes.
Wonderfully, exciting, authentic food. The owners are beautiful huge hearted people that care not only about creating tasty dishes but also making sure you have a great experience. They were busy and experiencing staff shortages but the family run business had family members on the floor hustling as best they could. I highly recommend this gem of a restaurant.
Great food. Great service!!! Perhaps only bad thing is that the place was really cold.
