Went there last night for dinner and drinks. We had their gumbo and short rib sandwich entrées, and the boudin balls and shishito peppers appetizers. Wow! The food was amazing. I was not expecting the cocktails to be as good they were! Overall a very pleasant surprise. We will come back again.
A surprise on the "Lamar Corridor," this place has an excellent cocktail menu with salads that use fried okra instead of croutons. I recommend their refreshing drinks as well as their appetizers. I'll come next time for the mains. The appearance may fool the city dweller: this is not a local dive. This is an establishment that makes high quality stuff without the need for high quality trimmings. I rate this ahead of anything in the Domain, for example.
We ordered curbside to go. The food was ready exactly at time promised. That was the highlight of our experience. The burger was uncooked (no joke) as were the blackened shrimp on the "wedge" salad. The Bahn Mi sandwich was good. The "wedge" salad consisted of large pieces of torn up head lettuce; that's it! The blackened shrimp were very well seasoned but totally uncooked. I had to cook both the burger and shrimp to be even edible. My son ordered an Abita Root Beer and it was in a plastic bag (?) that leaked. It was watery as well. For $69 including tip, I am not expecting Michelin stars but well prepared edible food would be nice.
Friendly and attentive service for our small group at a recent happy hour. We had drinks and appetizers (not dinner). The bar is well-stocked and cocktails and appetizers were really good. Will be back for dinner, the menu looks interesting. Seating is indoors or on outdoor covered deck (latter has some cooling blowers, much needed for comfort this time of year).
I went on a Saturday night typically when restaurants are busy. I almost didn’t go in as it appeared they weren’t open because there was not a single person inside only a few people out back. The servers were friendly and the drink was okay. It came from the tap. My beer was flat. The drinks were reasonably priced will maybe try the food on a day there’s other people in the restaurant.
Super impressed! House staff were kind and attentive, music was fun, service was fast, and all of that was awesome. But what I really want to hit is the best bowl of gumbo I've ever had (here or anywhere). It kinda hit me by surprise, really. The shrimp were unexpectedly tender. The sausage was perfectly earthy. The broth was savory, spicy, and just the right amount of "swampy" for a gumbo. And there was some "umami" in there, too. I'm coming back. Need more gumbo.
My boyfriend and I sat outside on the amazing patio on a windy May Friday night. The vibe and atmosphere was perfect. I got a blueberry mule and it was delicious. Very good and reasonable prices. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful.I ordered fried chicken and my boyfriend got the short rib banh mi. Both were extraordinarily yummy. We would 100% come back again and with friends!!
11:15 Mothers Day reservation for 8 and seated immediately. Final food arrived at 12:45 - one or two plates at a time over 45 minutes. It was not the fact that it was too busy, just poorly organized and staffed. Wound up getting our own water and coffee refills.Food was good, not great, but sped and quality of service means we won’t return.NEW:Thanks for responding. My son lives very close to you (the meal was his engagement celebration) and would like to give you another try. Where can I send email that is private? thanks again and we realize that staffing is a challenge - better training of existing would help - no follow up on more drinks, refills or quality of food. She was nice, but shy and didn't seem to be well versed in serving. Bartender was very helpful on the times we went in to get our own drinks and water!
We had a good time and the food tasted good. The drinks were awesome too, loved the presentation and the taste. Our group decided to sit on the inside and a table off to the side. One of the things that could have been better was the service. We had to ask for things multiple times and never got them in the end. But we still enjoyed eating there and the enjoyed the food!
Great brunch place. Weather was nice so we sat outside. Place was pretty empty, which was surprising. The drinks are great. The mimosa with red bull, not for the faint of heart lol and the electric blue drink tastes like a slushie...dangerously fantastic. We got the scotch egg, breakfast blt, gumbo, cornbread, and shrimp & grits... all very tasty except for the grits, that was ok. Parking lot is in the back, nice artwork. Good spot for food and drinks.
