Cute restaurant, I dig the king panda portrait. I drank the Pow! Right in the Kisser! (Tequila/mezcal) & Sippin' Panda punch (baijiu) and they were both very delicious. The soft shell crab with the sauce and flavorful corn was my favorite but the brisket fried rice was also great. I also loved the Xiao Mian noodles!! Those noodles tasted so yummy. Great atmosphere and vibe, but not the biggest place. We had to wait a lil bit for a table without a reservation on a Sunday night, but we were able to sit and get drinks while we waited.
5 stars all day long!!! Omg I’m here alone for my first time and I’m BLOWN AWAY!!I ordered the hot and sour soup - UNBELIEVABLE!Next- cabbage pickles and Garlic Wok Greens with a side of house Ponzu and hot mustard vinaigrette - UNBELIEVABLE!!!!Last- brisket Fried Rice - a little dry, but I jazzed it up with their amazing sauces and guess what… UNBELIEVABLEJob well done!! I’m super excited this place delivered exactly what I was hoping for! I’m born and raised in Austin and truly appreciate good cuisine… I’m hooked and can’t wait to bring friends and family back!! Nice work!!
My fiancé and I just had dinner here for the first time since we moved to Austin over 2 years ago. We have been wanting to go for so long but always forgot, and today we decided to give it a try. Food was really good, very tasty and nice flavors. We had the General Tso Chicken, Brisket Fried Rice and Gyoza. Everything was good and service was superb.Only downside is that they didn’t have that big of a drink menu or imported Chinese beers. A little disappointed on that but all good.
Very yummy blend of cultures. I’m not much of a veggies guy but I look forward to the green beans here every time we come. They’re just on another level. Several other dishes that are great as well. It’s one of those places that it feels like pretty much whatever you order will be really goodThe atmosphere is great. I tend to prefer their ordering with the app approach because there is less need to time the server interactions. It’s nice they somewhat supplement that by having a host that still touches base with you from time to time. A great balance.
Really used to love this place. Prices are high but the experience and food was always worth it. Our latest visit wasn’t great. There’s no longer a real waiter so you order from an app. It’s fine but not as easy and makes ordering a drink more difficult.Used to like to have a good amount to drink here also but my wife and I both ordered cocktails and they just weren’t made right. An old fashion that tasted like straight whiskey. Not just strong but made incorrectly. The food was also a bit lower quality than I was expecting as well.Hopefully it’s just a one time flub!
Went in excited for the special lunar new year menu advertised on the news and their Facebook page, but I guess it was false advertising since we were told it wasn't available. Very disappointed! The food we got was okay. Not a ton of selection menu wise. Flavors and seasoning were overdone to the point I couldn't tell what anything was halfway through. Don't expect fancy plating, everything is just thrown together in a bowl. The couple of people on staff we dealt with were really pleasant and helpful, but we spent more time with our phones placing our order. Made for an underwhelming experience all in all. I recommend calling ahead to make a reservation as we were almost turned away even though the restaurant only had a couple of two tops sat. They let us sit if we ordered and were out in less than an hour, which was perfect because we really didn't want to stick around. Maybe we'll try again in a year or two to see if they've upped their game.
Trendy, dim interior and fun music (a tad loud, but par for the course). Looks a bit like a cool dive bar from the outside, but it's much cozier on the inside in my opinion. Food is great and came out after about 10 minutes of waiting. You order by scanning a QR code with your phone and putting the order in through a website, which shows the menu for you. Service is prompt and helpful. Don't forget to close your order on the website when you're done eating, so you can pay and tip accordingly! The chicken and waffle (Sunday only special) is super good. I'm trying not to overhype it so I don't disappoint people, but it's the best dish I've had there. Everything else is quite solid too, but that chicken and waffle dish is on a league of its own. Don't expect authentic Chinese food. But Old Thousand proves that Americanized/fusion Chinese food can be really yummy and elevated too. :-)
My entree was okay, but get the brussel sprouts, and the dessert with the mango balls. You won't regret it.
A must visit in Austin. Unique experience with great food and cocktails. Went with a friend who doesn't eat meat and there was plenty of awesome things to order. The service is very unique - you order on your phone but there are people buzzing around dropping off food and checking on you. Will be back
Great food & cocktails. It was QR code menus when we were there, and the staff is super helpful if you have questions. Highly recommend!
