This place is poppping! Came here at 1 pm on a Thursday afternoon and there was a 45 minute wait that really was about 45 minutes. We had to wait outside and at least they serve you appetizers which is really nice.Good:First place I've been to that serves popcorn as a free starting food. It was good buttered popcorn too and I was pleasantly surprised - what a good portion size!I liked the deviled eggs too that we got as well as the corndog shrimp - super unique dish. The chicken and waffles was good as well and the waffles were amazing -cornbread waffles rock! The chicken was also really juicy and good.Bad:The shrimp and grits were a bit too salty and heavy for me.Service time is really long - they are just really busy and it's hard to flag someone down.Overall I enjoyed my time and might come back but not when the wait is that long!

Lovely building and very close to our hotel Dinner tasty banana pudding delicious Food very reasonably priced Staff very friendly Revisited next day for brunch

It was close to lunchtime and my wife was hungry, and needed food so behold nearby was Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill. We could have walked into the Fairmont Austin or the Iron Works Barbecue but we have dined there numerous times and wanted to try something different. Moonshine has great curb appeal being an old house and inside found the interior nicely designed where different rooms all around. There was even a small bar. Our server was very nice and brought us a huge bucket of popcorn and water in glass jar containers. It was actually good, but did not want to fill up with popcorn where might effect enjoying whatever I ordered off the menu. I guess you could just come here sit at the bar and have drinks and have popcorn. But I wanted to test the chef and ordered the Backyard Chicken Sandwich and my wife order the Chicken Fried Steak. The place was very friendly had a nice southern ambiance to it. Our plates arrived and my chicken sandwich looked very presentable with it cut in half with a nice side of house fries. My wife’s chicken fried steak was huge where could feed two people. Even the guy sitting next to me marveled at it and ordered his own. Luckily he was a big guy. The sandwich tasted very good where the bread was a bit toasted, and nice flavor of the chicken. The fries were crispy and tasty. Even though I did make a dent in the popcorn bucket I was still able to finish off my lunch. However my wife lost from eating the whole chicken fried steak where I grabbed my fork to give it a taste. I normally do not eat red meat but tasted a tiny of it and was delightful. The breading and gravy was what I devoured the most. But the popcorn caught up with me and I was full from scavenging off my wife’s plate. When we left there was a line of people to dine here where its first come first server, no reservations. We walked here but they do have a parking valet in front. It was not the right time to test the bartender but heard they have good drinks here too, and will need ti return to give it a try too.

Our waiter Chris was amazing.Walking into this establishment and the atmosphere was amazing as well as esthetics, Our waiter welcomed us with his Positive energy Also answering all of our questions.I started off with the honey hot wings that had the little spice with some sweet at the end, My baked Mac and cheese had so many flavor Combination that really Enjoyable on many levels. My Salisbury steak was tender packed with flavor and complimented well with the match potatoes. The peach cobbler threw me off a little bit as I was thinking it would be more of a pie but still it was wonderful layered with granola also thick slices of peach, Definitely money well spent at this restaurant.

Moonshine served is pretty potent. Atmosphere and decor is very inviting. The appetizers were definitely better than the food. Best Fried Calamari I have ever had from anywhere. I had the porkchop, it was a bit on the dry side. American Cuisine reaching the point but, not quite.Waitress was highly attentive despite how busy it was. Probably go again if invited, but not of my own accord.

Definitely glad i stopped here for my first meal in austin! The moonshine was friendly open atmosphere and buzzing with excited diners. The shrimp corn dogs were amazing and the chicken salad was great as the chicken tenders were crunchy and flavorful with a great balance of fresh ingredients. My only regret was not mashing it to the banana pudding every one was raving about. There will always be next time i guess...

The food was decent just not my cup of tea. The service was terrible though. Our server was really rude on purpose and then he played it off w an " I'm just kidding" after all his rude comments because I sent back the 2 items that I tried.. but for good reason.. I got the bruschetta with goat cheese and it was more like a ranch dip than the spreadable creamy goat cheese I was expecting. So after acting like I was crazy and a few snarky comments he offered to bring something else so I went for the deviled eggs but they were spicy, thick and just weird so when I returned those and just stuck to the fried green tomatoes (which were great) he said I beg to differ the eggs are not spicy.. well, CLEARLY EVERYONE has different heat tolerance levels and mine isnt too low..he was just rude the whole time. The chicken and waffles that my bf got where really good the waffles have a smokey flavor that really worked and the chicken was tender even after being fried hard and the gravy served w the chicken is really mild and jist goes really well w the dish. Also, about the fried green tomatoes... they were great! The smoked salad shrimp atop of the tomatoes added a great flavor and the sauce that is drizzled on top is really good as well and the roasted tomatoes just top it all off !! The cocktails are not very generous lol but decently priced at 6.50. We probably wont return but it wasnt the wrost.

Went there for lunch with family. Loved this quaint restaurant with a nice atmosphere. The service was great and the food was good. Particularly loved the fried green tomatoes. The free popcorn was a nice addition. Would definitely visit again.

We had a group of 8 for dinner on the patio at the Moonshine Grill. It's hot in Texas these days, but we had a shady table and big fans cooling us off. The appetizers were all great, especially the fried green tomatoes. My grilled rainbow trout was delicious. We all appreciated the friendly service too.

Trust your waiter. He recommended our entrees and drinks, and yep, he was spot on. He said he ended up working at Moonshine after sampling the bourbon slushy, and of course, we had to try it. Our table was smitten. Very nice wine list (shout out to the Alberino!) Steak and eggs---delicious, and the ribs were excellent. Appreciated the popcorn, as well as substitutions. Even though it's a wait to be seated, the staff allows you to enjoy a leisurely brunch. And it was definitely appreciated!
