I have fallen in love with the Roots Chicken Shak chicken tenders and fries! I have never tried a better chicken tender than theirs, I highly recommend them, the very light breading and taste they have is very good.
Couldn't bring myself to actually eat there. I guess my generation wants to sit down.
I was looking to the duck fat fries but tbh they don’t really taste any different from “regular fries”. They don’t have like a more “complex” flavor, if you didn’t know they were “duck fat” you wouldn’tve believed it anyway. The chicken tenders are alright. I think it’s got great potential though!! I think it’s a good move by HEB, the mini foot court.
I was minding my own business enjoying my food and drinks and a bartender came up to me and said "that is not allowed in here" I was confused at first but then she said outside beer is not allowed. I said oh I know...I would not bring outside beer. I bought this in HEB. She said no you can only buy drinks from the bar and you can't even bring groceries in a bag into the bar. I looked over and did see a sign that says "no outside food or drinks" Yet everyone eats the cooked food from HEB around the bar because the food is from HEB. I think Tori the bartender likes to pick and chose the rules ... she is on with "outside of the bar food" but she wants her tips so no "outside of the bar drinks"? Well guess what Tori that is a double standard by your own sign on the wall. Mind your own business and stay behind the bar.
What can one expect from a food hall in a HEB supermarket? Spacious, clean, no frills, and convienent. Of course they placed the ready made to go meal items right next to the food hall. There are a few choices each an individual business. Tacos, bbq, japanese, grilled cheese, fried chicken. I chose the grilled cheese n tomato soup w a fountain soda. My order came out to $9.07. My peep ordered from the bbq place, ribs, sausage, brisket, n potato salad. His order cost $35. He said the bbq was a bit pricey. He gave the experience 3.5 stars. So do i. Next time i want to try the fried chicken fried in duck fat.
Probably closer to 3 1/2, but I'm feeling semi-generous. Think mall or airport food court, but with better quality and execution. The hard part for our first visit was deciding which restaurant to try. I ended up trying their Japanese restaurant and my dining companion tried the grilled cheese restaurant.First and foremost, this is not a user friendly experience. Every one of the restaurants is a self serve counter where you use a keypad to order. The format of the keypad/menu isn't easy to follow. More than one diner (besides me and my companion) needed to figure out how to order a drink. (FYI, you order the drink from the keypad, then you get your cup when they call you up for your food.) Additionally, customizing an order can be a bit of a challenge. A lot of the online ordering platforms have customization options, but Main Streat has a space to enter your requests with the on-screen keyboard. Fortunately, the kitchen staff does a great job of reading and accommodating special requests.I had the pork potstickers, which are some of the best in town. They're crispy, but not deep fried and the sauce has a good flavor. I also liked my noodles with the beef skewers. The beef was high quality, but it would've benefitted from being flipped on the grill as one side had grill marks and the other side was just grey meat. My dining companion had one of the grilled cheese sandwiches, which she described as good.Once you figure out that you need to order the drinks at the same time you place your food order, you'll find the drinks in the limited seating area by the bar. HEB has its own version of the Coca-Cola Freestyle machine which offers products from Coke, Pepsi, and Maine Root. They also have sweet and unsweet tea as well as lemonade and strawberry lemonade. The food is high quality and there are a lot of options available (surprisingly no burger or Italian options, though). The awkwardness of ordering and very limited dine-in seating means that Main Streat will be someplace that I'd only stop by when in the area and probably during off hours.
Great variety! BBQ, grilled cheese sandwiches, tacos, Asian, and chicken! Super convenient and easy to order!
This place smells incredible over here
I don’t know what they put in the sweet tea at Roots Chicken Shak but it’s AMAZING! I discovered this place one day after working at the hospital for my nursing clinicals. I make it a point to come here after every clinical. The chicken is really good and always fresh. I just had the Japanese place too and the fried rice is delicious! I highly recommend both places!
