Delicious and huge portions, wish the panang curry had vegetables in it. Service was not the greatest but could have been the day.
If I could title this review, it would be "A Steady Decline."The first time I ate food from here was December of 2019. I distinctly remember because it was my wife's birthday and then a few months later the pandemic hit. The food that evening was phenomenal. I mean, it was one of the best Thai meals I've ever had, and I've eaten at a lot of Thai restaurants. I ordered the P41 Special Panang Beef Curry. The beef was served in large, incredibly tender chunks. It had clearly been cooking for many hours. It was packed with flavor. I was ready to call Madam Mam's the best Asian Restaurant in Austin, and a serious contender for best restaurant full stop.Every meal we've had from there since then has been a slow decline. In the early months of the pandemic, our neighbors joined with us to oder a large order. We ate sitting in lawn chairs in our alley. I ordered the same P41 special. The meat wasn't in chunks. It was thin slices of beef. There were similar flavors, but the texture and experience was considerably diminished. And it's been like that consistently. We still order from them, mostly because there isn't much else around South Austin that's quality. But tonight was another major step in the decline. We ordered two orders of the Pad Thai. Both were enormous portions. I'm a big guy with a big appetite, and it was way more than I could eat. But the problem was the proportions. It was like 90% noodles, 7% vegetables, and 3% meat (pork in our case). There was such a measly amount of pork. It's hard to believe that I spent $28 on two orders of what amounted to noodles with a bit of sauce. We had maybe 4 ounces of pork between the two orders combined.I'm not one who normally writes a lot of Google Reviews. But this has been disappointing. This may have been our last visit to Madam Mam's. Someone needs to open another quality Thai place in south Austin. We'd be the first in line.
I have ordered delivery from this location several times over the years but this was the first time inside this restaurant. I enjoyed the interior décor. It was clean and feel very Thai. I would give their papaya salad a 4.5/5 and their Tom Yum soup a 3.5/5. The Tom Yum soup tasted as if it had too much pepper. The Brussel sprouts were very good.
Very good Thai food- the best I’ve had in Austin yet. The yellow curry is to die for. Great service too! The menu has many traditional Thai dishes with a very good selection of curries and proteins. Enjoy!!
Used to be very good couple months ago, but went there (called ahead to find out last order time) around closing time and was served inside frozen madam rolls. They're in busy of packing that they didn't care to ask / listen how the food was. Curry was overloaded with turmeric, wings were stinking with fish oil. Had a very poor experience last night.
The Bangkok street food style fried rice and it had an unacceptable amount of egg shell! I know most people are questioning if there’s an “acceptable amount of eggshell” now, but I usually brush off minor stuff and one small piece is no big deal… My dish smelled and looked so delicious but I can’t recommend their fried rice because I didn’t get to eat much of it- I got 3 bites full of crunchy icky egg shell, and when I sifted through the rice I found even more pieces… My appetite was kinda ruined after that, so I’m here to warn others: avoid egg dishes or beware of shells! I also want to make sure the kitchen manager is aware that one of their cooks may need a new method of egg cracking since they missed so many large pieces. While I can’t say I really loved the Bangkok friend rice because of all this, I will still recommend the fresh spring rolls, fried tofu sticks, edamame, pad see ew, bankrupt noodles and the garee curry to anyone visiting… or just go to Sap’s ?
Tried this Thai restaurant recommended by some Asian friends. Ordered some simple dishes and they were so good. The service was great as the waitor was very friendly and we didn't have to wait for long to have our food served. I would definitely go back again.
Really always enjoy food here, both eat in and take out. The staff is kind and makes sure that you are feeling welcome and happy. The prices are a little high but I always leave full and feel the food is of good quality. Enjoy the flavor and sauces although the menu is huuuuuuge. I highly recommend to come here and try different things.
We dine here about once a week and absolutely love it. We’ve tried most of the menu over the years and my favorite is the special Tom kha soup. It’s creamy and packed full of flavor. However, everything else I’ve had is great too. The curries are awesome too. The service is usually good, but as with most restaurants now, they can be understaffed sometimes. Either way, the food makes up for any wait time.
Ordered delivery from this restaurant and was just as happy getting it via Uber Eats as I was in restaurant. The food arrived warm and they partitioned / well packed the items to ensure safe delivery.Would order delivery or take out from them again. Oh and did I mention this place just brings back college memories for me? So glad they have more locations now.
