Enjoyed our meals, came here with a group of 8. It is all self-service here. Looking at the reviews we must have been lucky. We had zero complaints and didn’t have a bad experience. I would come back to try a different dish!
Very poor experience! The server was very rude and basically throwing items down on the table vs handing them to you, we were unsatisfied with the quality of the quality of the food and the mgr/owner pretty much did nothing to make the situation better. His exact words were “the food is made how it is made and we offer no refunds or exchanges” mind you this policy is not listed anywhere in the establishment when we requested it. We had to call the bank to place a stop on any possible charges from this restaurant. If you are visiting the Austin area do not visit this restaurant especially if you are melanated.
Visited a few times, they have decent food for the prices and we love sitting outside on their patio when the weather is really nice. My favorite thing on the menu isn’t actually the dumplings but the noodles!
I come here often for personal and work meals because the food has always been awesome. They recently changed their form of ordering (all digital via QR codes), so I asked for assistance from the guy bussing tables. He rolled his eyes and spoke incredibly degradingly the entire time. It was so uncharacteristic of this place. Incredibly disappointed by how he treated me and my guest during our visit. It was a terrible experience. Good food, but horrible service from the gentleman with longer slicked back hair.
I went in and it was fairly dead with a party of 4. We weren’t greeted, but that’s okay because the restaurant is pretty much a self service kind of place. We order and it takes about 15 minutes for us to get the first plate of food, tossed on the table, with nothing said by the person dropping it off, then another 5 the next one comes, and so on until 3 of us have our food. Then I waited for about 20 minutes, until I had to go ask for my order, to be stared at for a little before they said they missed it and then began to prepare it. We waited another 15 minutes and then my food finally came but was handed to another person at the table, even though I was the only one with no food AND the one who went up to complain and ask for my order. The food wasn’t even steaming hot so I don’t believe that it was remade fresh, No apology was given, the service was cold as well as rude and the food was decent, but small portions. Not too hot of an experience for my first time there, and I doubt I will go back.
We had a drinks and the fried rice. The fried rice is very pricey when the only thing in it are scallions and egg plus whichever protein you want at an additional charge. It was too salty as well. The drink was good. But I didn’t find anything amazing about this place.
This 5 start review is for the CHEESEBURGER DUMPLINGS. Imagine the juiciest and cheesiest burger you’ve ever had, in big sized form. They taste exactly as you’d imagine. Eating them was a spiritual experience for me. The sauce they give you with it is the BOMB as well.
The flavors are ok but the portions at this price point were astoundingly small. I guess the rent is high on Rock Rose. We thought they accidentally gave us kids meals with a couple pieces of meat and a half cup of Lo Mein. The cheeseburger dumplings were the size of large grapes, and the entree classic dumplings were small and hard. To top it off, they were out of every kind of soup dumpling, but didn’t seem that busy on a Thursday. Small bites and high prices are fine at Uchiko, but this was about the quality of mall food court Chinese, or Panda Express. The dumplings tasted like they had been frozen to me. I would not go back simply because for $90 the 4 of us all left hungry. This place used to be Lotus & Cleaver with amazing dishes like Chinese Slaw we craved, but not anymore.
They have a good fried rice… it’s a good place to go with your family..
If I'm being honest I was a little disappointed. The crispy pork dumplings were really good, the rest of the food was good but I wasn't terribly impressed, and the drinks were mediocre at best. The server was not attentive or friendly. My friends and I felt rushed by him while ordering even though we were the only customers in the restaurant. We ordered two of the rainbow soup dumplings (and we were clear about wanting two) and afterwards realized he had only rung us up for one. He didn't repeat the order to us so we didn't realize until he brought out the food. At that point it was not worth ordering another.
