3.5 stars. Staffs are really friendly and attentive. We got the 3 piece with 2 sides meal, but the waitress mentioned there is a special for 4 piece with 2 sides meal for the same priced. We got the special. The chicken came out hot, crispy and tender. We also got fried okras and I got root beer float. Price were reasonable.
This restaurant advertises as famous fried chicken. Not sure I would agree. I ordered the two piece chicken dinner,it was ok,a bit on the dry side and not much flavor. My friend ordered the two piece dark and had the same opinion. Not much to crow about. The staff is friendly and efficient so our visit wasn’t unpleasant.
It’s been a few years since I’ve eaten here and would have given 4 stars I remember it being just slightly more memorable and tasty the first time. I get the tenders with slaw and beans for $10.25 you get 4 tenders for the same price as 3! The staff are very friendly, the service is quick even when they’re busy. The chicken is spicy so if you don’t like spice this isn’t for you. I tasted the spice just remember it being more flavorful. The tenders had a crispy skin which most tenders don’t. Wanted to add a little salt to everything. The craft beer was only $5.
This was my first time with Gus's fried chicken. I ordered a 3-piece white (2 breast and wing) meal with a root beer float. The food was served fairly quickly and the server was attentive.I love how the skins were slightly darker, a good sign of marinating? And the moist and temperature were sealed under the thin and crispy skins, even through my third piece. The coleslaw was refreshing and the baked beans tasted great with a hint of spiciness. There are many ways to eat fried chickens, but you get those who know how to fry chickens - one way, San Jacinto Blvd, Austin, Texas. (I wish we have Gus's in Colorado).
Went near downtown and found this hidden gem. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. It was a hot day and asked for a pitcher of water and she didn't disappoint with a pitcher and constant refill. We ordered the family 16pc with Mac n cheese, fries and slaw. Perfectly cooked chicken, juicy and flavorful. All the sides were great and with a fun atmosphere made this a pleasant chicken fry evening. We will definitely be back!
One of my favorite fried chicken places of all time. Got it in Memphis, Los Angeles and now in Austin. The quality is consistent throughout. The prices are very reasonable. A plate of chicken comes with 2 sides.Their dark meat is amazing but even their white meat is juicy and that's when you know you got amazing fried chicken. The rub is a bit spicy but elevates the chicken to a higher level. For sides, the Mac and cheese, fries and fried okra are all excellent.
By far the best fried pickle spears I have ever eaten! Love that there is a souvenir cup option. My boyfriend got the fried okra and let me try some - it was very good too! Google the history on the restaurant- it’s incredibly interesting and made me appreciate the meal even more knowing how it became famous. You definitely won’t walk away hungry after eating here! The waiter was phenomenal despite a packed house and was great at checking in on us.
Great fried chicken and sides! Just the right amount of spicy!
Staff friendly and efficient, cleanliness not so much. Ordered the special chicken tenders with slaw and greens. Slaw was delicious. Chicken was lukewarm and seemed to old like it had been sitting around for a while. Dry. Over rated, over priced.
Don't need to discuss much about Gus.. just get on the Bus.. an get there if you want some delicious and "spicy" fried chicken. $12 for a 3 piece dinner plate with BBQ beans and coleslaw makes Gus an affordable dining option in Austin. I did take-out which took about 20 minutes as restaurant was very packed on a Saturday night. Friendly service with a simple but tasty menu. Nice to have Gus in Austin.
