Run away. Terrible. The "smoked turkey" is thick cut deli meat turkey. That was clue #1. The ribs were tender but NO seasoning and the bbq sauce was tangy sweet like Kansas...bit bad. Ia from Memphis...and yall making Texas look bad. I couldn't get a table at Terry Blacks and decided to come down the street here. Bad move. The Mac n cheese was watery and flat. A cheap version pf something in a box. The coleslaw was cabbage and mayo...bland and chopped large. The hushpuppies were good but I only ate one and sent everything back. I only tasted a tiny bit of everything. That plate of food should have been $4. I paid for my beer and left. Close your doors or get a new chef/cook. They were so busy being loud in the back instead of cooking and seasoning that food. Ruined my taste for bbq today. Dang. Lol good luck rho
Besides the old day care smell, the Green Mesquite BBQ Crew were very helpful. I gazed my eyes on the Two Meat BBQ Plate and choose the Turkey and Brisket (an additional $1 charge for brisket) with Pinto Beans and Mac 'n' Cheese.What's crazy is that my Turkey was succulent and tasty! I kept wanting more and more! Great Job! However, the Brisket was a hit and miss of dry and moist pieces that either dried out your mouth or fell apart at the touch.The BBQ Sauce, which combined a sweet and tangy taste was great on the brisket. KUDOS again to that Turkey, because I literally had no BBQ sauce on my Turkey, it was that spot on. The sides were sides.For the price, you can't beat it... and a gentleman to the right of me kept sucking his fingers off from the pork ribs he was having. Gonna have to try those next if they're that good.
2022-04-13 Excellent place to eat outdoors if you care about Covid spacing. Friendly service, plenty of menu depth, and great food when you’ve winnowed down to your final selection.The green beens were fresh, not canned, and cooked ‘al dente’ if that’s a thing when talking about veg. Just right for my buds.The coleslaw was meh…big standard fare for BBQ places. The roast chicken was top notch. Nicely seasoned but not overly so.The brisket was hiding under the bread on my two meat plate and was standard for this town, which is to say excellent.The portions were generous and satisfying.All in all an excellent meal again. This place is predictably good.
Is this the best BBQ place in town? Maybe not. Is it consistently good and reasonably priced? Yes! This is where people from the neighborhood go. Most of the employees have been working there for years, so you're not getting served by an inexperienced college kid. I can get a 3-meat plate to go and have enough for two meals. The ribs are my favorite, and brisket, turkey and sausage are good other choices. Their pulled pork makes an excellent sandwich. Their sides are better than most places, too. And I always finish with peach cobbler. Highly recommended. They have other items on the menu besides BBQ. I can recommend their fried catfish plate with potato salad and fried okra.
We were in Austin visiting relatives. We were out seeing the sites & went to a museum. When it was time for lunch, I checked out places nearby & saw this place. The service was slow to start, then was good. I had a 3 meat platter. The brisket was ok, the ribs very good, the sausage good. The portion was good. The fries were just ok. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich & potato salad. She liked the sandwich. The potato salad was just ok. Prices were good as we had the daily specials.
Friendly reception. We went for a late lunch. The BBQ beef was perfectly done. We got their two meat special. The meats were moist and delicious with a side dish. A large meal plate for $12. Have plenty of parking up front in this busy part of town. Definitely return if we are in Austin.
Came for dinner while in town. Got in right before 8 pm when they close. This is a sit down restaurant with a bit more than barbecue. We all got barbecue. Prices were dirt cheap compared to the other barbecue restaurants in town. $14 for 2 meats and $15 for 3 meats. Smoke Turkey was good, brisket was decent, wings were very good, pork ribs were good and sausage was ok. Cole slaw very good. They are out of most of the other sides. Friendly staff.
Met up with friends here a few days ago. Service was super friendly. Two people in our group got the catfish and loved it. I got a Loaded Baker and it was very good. On top of good food and nice folks, the prices are surprisingly reasonable. What's not to like?
Really lovely service and delicious food! My partner got a two meat bbq plate and there’s quite a few vegetarian options too - I got a veggie burger which was really delicious. All super reasonably priced too!
Good food and the gentleman who was serving us and other 6 tables was super sweet and efficient! He was working so hard and still keeping smile on his face. The wings, fries and horseradish Mayo were amazing!
