Eclectic eatery with a holey theme, as in, everything is a doughnut! Not just the dessert doughnuts, which are huge, plate filling, inventively topped circular masterpieces of fried dough, but the sandwich selection, which are likewise doughnut based (though without the sweet toppings). They are inventively prepared and tasty. The environment has a dual personality, with an outdoor courtyard with a tree canopy, tables and chairs and an Airstream walkup bar. Inside features a large bar, small stage and table service. Decor is chalkboards and drinkware is Mason jar-like. Music is loud and emphasis is on casual and fun. It's the kind of vibe where random strangers may ask you what your favorite movie is. Parking can be a little tight at the location on bustling South Congress Street, but it is convenient to the hordes of apartments housing their clientele. The Hill Country is famous for it's German heritage, including a taste for great baked goods, and doughnuts are included in that diet. Gourdough's is a unique extension of this tradition, an Austin-only spot that is a must-stop destination for visitors and locals.
Gourdough's was definitely a must try when in Austin.Very chill atmosphere with reclaimed wood vibes. It is a donut galore. With many different iterations of donut themes. The Donut burger is rich hearty and fun. The fried deviled eggs were a good way to start your meal. Desert was very good, could have done without the peanuts. Definitely a place to treat your donut itch.
Wow I was VERY pleasantly surprised. I knew they had the donut theme but I’m not a fan of too sweet things so I was a bit skeptical. But the donuts are just light and flaky not necessarily sweet on the main menu items. I had the dirty south, such a large portion and omg the cranberry habanero jam ? everything paired together so yummy. My partner had the Ron Burgundy, it was also very large. I had a bite and couldn’t even get all the ingredients but it was amazing. We’ll definitely be back to try more and check out brunch! Apparently they have $4 mimosas or $13 carafes. And the patio areas look so cute. Also the music had an appreciated good mix of styles.
The staff seemed a little un excited to be there. It was a beautiful day outside so maybe they were bummed to be working. Also we though the spinach dip price to portion ratio was a little off. Really the portion was great, just expensive for about a cup of dip and serving of chips.Food and atmosphere were great. We split the Getting Piggy With It doughnut burger, and upgraded the side to potato salad. Both were super tasty. The spinach artichoke dip and chips was also very good- we thought the best we’ve had at a restaurant. Bottom line: would definitely come back for more.
Got Ron burgundy with Brussels, and dirty bird with mashed sweet potato. Both were delicious, and the side upgrades were totally worth it! Service was fast too.
My friends did not lie that this was top o' the bucket list on our trip to Austin. CBD strawberry donut was an experience not to be missed. Nice place to relax at night
First time and It was especially delicious after doing a 12 mile mountain biking trail ride. Great choice of local beers, and definitely a twist with the donut burger.
(01/08)Always drove by this place, but decided to try it out. Great food, good drinks, nice service. Shared the hangover plate with my husband and.. ??. Loved it. Pricey but worth it :]. 5 stars.(01/09)Liked the food so much that we had to come back. I ordered the appetizer Wiz-Kale-leafa (?), the dip was good, I didn't really care for the cheese slices on top, or the chips chosen to eat the dip with. The chips were just too salty for an artichoke dip. I ordered the same hangover plate, which was still good, My husband had some chicken and donut sort of thing, the chicken was okay. I also ordered a side of Brussel sprouts, but they were too overseasoned for me, i couldn't finish them. Service was still good, our waitress was always checking up on us, and the environment was nice :]. Place is pricey ?.For now, I'll keeep it at 5 stars.
Nice atmosphere. All the food we ordered tasted good. The grilled cheese was overpriced. Service was OK, they seemed understaffed. Didn't get dessert, so next time I'm in Austin I'll stop in to try some of their gourmet doughnuts.
Overall it was good I had a salad which comes with a doughnut BTW but minus the donut it was a great salad the kids split a grilled cheese and seemed to enjoy it. Nana had the Cristo and said it was wonderful the wife had the El Camino and she said it was good as well. We ordered the Okra Winfrey app and it was pleasant and I also had the fried Brussels which for me and the wife they were the absolute best thing we ate.
