Got in line at 7:40am and ordered food at 12:05pm. In the picture are 2 1/4 lbs of brisket (1.75 lean and 0.5 fatty), 1/4 lbs of turkey, 1/4 lbs of pulled pork and 1 house + 1 special sausage. All of the meat turned out perfect. Brisket was of course amazing, seasoned just the right amount so that you can well taste the meat itself. Turkey and pork came out as a surprise too as they were so moist.Chairs were provided during the wait and the shop pre-opened at 9am for folks to get water and use the restroom. You can also ask staff for a tour to the pits. It was hot but very cool.
The brisket - first time I ever had brisket too was to die for. Waited 1h30 to get in but soooo worth it. It was meeting in my mouth, never had anything like it! Juicy, tasty ! Just excellence in a bite ! I don't recommend the potato salad it was a bit to sour for me but every other side was really good! I got the pinto beans and Mac and cheese I think and it was excellent. Oh and I got the Jalapeno sausage! The Decor is pretty simple and modest.. this is not a like like a fancy restaurant however if you are going for the food, you will not be disappointed !
The best barbecue I have ever had the good fortune to eat. I’m originally from Dallas, such an iconic staple of Austin and lives up to the hype. The potato salad was so good, bbq brisket sandwich is plentiful, bbq sauce is drinkable, they have 4 amazing bbq options for you to choose from. The staff was very accommodating when it came to my new board and knife request. The beef rib is no joke. The way it’s cooked, the amount of beef it had on it. The onions are fresh and don’t overtake the meal which is a bonus, the line is well worth it. On Saturdays they have bbq beef ribs, you have to get there early for the ticket. It is quite expensive but well worth the price. The turkey was succulent. The bread is the best bread option in my opinion for bbq wonder bread. So much flavor in this Texas treasure. They have local beer only which is clutch, support small businesses, and sodas that pair so well with the meal.
Seldom do "have to try" restaurants live up to the hype... Franklin Barbecue absolutely does. We went on a Friday and got there around 10:30. There was a pretty big line already. We waited 1½-2 hours. The food and atmosphere were great. All of the barbecue is good, but the brisket is unbelievable and I've eaten a LOT of brisket from other restaurants, pit masters and what I've cooked myself. Franklin's is the BEST I've ever eaten. Absolutely worth the 100 mile drive and wait.
What can I say that hasn’t already been said? Simply the best BBQ I’ve had, but then I’m saying that as a visiting Brit who stood in a queue for 4hrs!The idea of queuing that long for food seems ludicrous, but it was everything everyone has said on here. We made friends with the two guys ahead of us who are Austin Locals, and ended up sitting and eating with them once we had our order. The staff are brilliant, coming down the line setting your expectations and asking roughly what you’ll be ordering so they can advise what may or may not be available. In summary.I arrived at 9:05 on a Sat morning. We were into the car park about 20ft from the main restaurant. The shop was open already and was serving drinks and encouraging everyone to stay hydrated and use the toilets if they needed them.In the end we were into the restaurant by about 12:00 and ordering just before 12:30 (estimate they had given us at 9am was 12:30 to 1pm). We were sat eating for a good hour. It was incredible.Don’t be intimidated by the wait. It’s an experience. You’ll make new friends, the food is incredible and it’s worth every minute.
We waited in line forever, well it seemed like it, but it was worth it. This bbq is so good! We had a variety of meats and sides. I especially loved the pork and coleslaw and my husband loved the ribs and brisket. We had enough for leftovers, that were just as good. Yum!
It was an honor to finally be able to make the trip to Austin and eat at Franklin. The brisket alone was worth the wait... unbelievably good. Jalapeño cheddar sausage is an absolute delicacy! Pork ribs were juicy, flavorful and tenderness was spot on. Pulled pork sandwich was phenomenal as well... the thin sauce puts it over the top. Slaw and potato salad were also great, but we didn't come here for the sides! Strawberry rhubarb pie sends you off already talking about when you're going to return. Got a chance to see the pits, too... really helps you appreciate the love these people have for BBQ because it is HOT in the pit room. Aaron (and team's) brisket is king! Hop in line (go on a weekday if you can), grab a chair from under the stairs (no need to bring your own), enjoy the wait because it's worth it!
I travel half the country for work, and this is hands down the best BBQ I’ve had. Even over Tennessee and Kansas. The brisket and ribs melted like butter with a perfect crisp bark. The sides are right there in great flavor with the Texas beans and cole slaw.We waited 3 1/2 hours to be served on a Saturday. 3 hours before open. 1/2 after opening.
The Brisket here is the most moist brisket I've ever had. Delicious I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Austin. We got there on a Friday around noon at there was a reported 2:30 hours wait. But we were able to get through in about an 1:45 minutes. The wait was worth it and the majority of people in line were visitors from out of town. We were able to meet enough people to past the time. You are also allowed to buy craft beer from the bar and complimentary water while you wait in line. Franklin, I'll see you soon. ????
Visited a few years ago and have come back a few times and can never quite beat the line before they sell out! The fist time I came I stood in line for about an hour with people before they opened. Glad to see it’s still thriving but as a landmark of Austin how could it not! Once inside the line moves quick. Come hungry but your eyes can definitely be bigger then stomach with so much good stuff to choose from! Will probably try ordering ahead.
