Delicious food! ? Service was a little slow even though it wasn't that busy. I dont even know who my actual server was since a different person took my drink and appetizer order than the person who took my food order. And neither of them introduced themselves to me. But the food was tasty and they kept my drink filled.
The food is awesome, incredibly delicious. The front of house (service and bar) is horrendous. It's consistently been bad for years and they continue to hire people who seemingly have no restaurant experience. I don't think I've ever seen a dedicated hostess (okay, fine), haven't seen a dedicated bartender since an awesome one left 18-months ago, and don't see food runners or busers... Without dedicated staff they are asking waiters to play every role. And guess what? It doesn't work! The few front of house staff *flounders*, leaves people waiting for long periods of time, gets orders wrong, brings dips with no chips, brings hot salsa with no water or napkins, and there are usually only 2 of them requiring them to pop behind the bar to make drinks without the knowledge and expertise, greet guests, run food, and bus tables... Yeesh, it must be exhausting. The bar is just sad. We've taught one young man how to make a margarita with verbal instruction - he told us it was his first time making one - he was our waiter. This past visit, an order of a skinny margarita came back with a full centimeter of syrup at the bottom of the cup. I thought maybe it was the orange liquor sinking to the bottom, but nope, it was sweetener. It was the worse "margarita" I've seen / tasted. Why, DK Maria's, why are you wasting such great food and a beautiful back story with poor front of house management? Invest in someone who can come in and train you how to manage waitstaff and customer service. Or better yet, turn over your front of house to a manager who does it well. The family who runs this place are failing their customers.Only way I'd recommend going is with 3 hours of time and the patience of a Saint. After many years of giving them chances, hearing excuses about being short staffed (perpetually, for years), and giving them kind, verbal feedback met with tons of apologies, I really do wish the best for them! I hope their service finally gets righted.
We had 10 people in our party and were seated right away. The food portions were unexpectedly big and delicious. Unlimited chips and salsa were a plus and kept the kids happy while waiting for our food. Even their margaritas were to our liking....with a kick. So glad we found this place and will go back again. We didn't take photos of all the plates, but here are two.
I came here and sat at the bar with my boyfriend ordered the enchiladas espuelas with a raspberry margarita. The smoked brisket in the enchiladas is amazing and the margarita was delicious and just strong enough. Great place to eat and drink
We really enjoyed the food. We both got the combo plates and everything was great. Angel was our server and he was great.
I went here on a Thursday night around 7pm. I knew it would probably be busy and it was, with about a 10 minute wait to get seatedThe restaurant was fairly full, and it was extremely loud with people talking. It took almost 40 minutes from the time I ordered until my food arrived. From watching other tables I wasn't alone in the ridiculously long wait times. Alcoholic beverages were promptly refreshed, so the bar was at least not running slowm I give the waitress credit she did her best to make the wait time palatable.Once the food finally arrived its good bordering on excellent honestly. The tortilla soup is hearty, flavorful, and the street tacos are tender and bursting with flavor. If I was coming here with friends to grab a drink and hang out, then the long wait on the food wouldn't be as problematic. However if you're here to simply eat, I can't recommend it based on this experience.
Always great food, big portions and great price. Service is always awesome too. Favorite Tex-Mex restaurant in Austin!
Grilled quail!!! Yes please!!! Si por favor!!!!! Not only was I surprised to see that on the menu, but they also had a band!!!! The funky monkeys! For a Wednesday I was not expecting this. The drinks don't exactly look like the pictures, but they are good. Live, exciting atmosphere, and the waiter didn't leave me unattended. I came in alone, but hey I wasn't expecting to come into a party, I should have dressed up for this. Will highly recommend to friends and family.
Nice music friendly place good food, better drinks !!!
The brisket enchiladas (forgot the name) are quite tasty. A bit tangy with the sauce but good. Service was a bit spotty but acceptable. Our tea glasses never got empty. Waitress told us she had been there since morning.
