Despite the many changes by their corporate overlords, we’re still drawn back to this Chuy’s for the great service, fun atmosphere, excellent margs, and tasty menu options (although our favorites continue to disappear from the menu). Gone now are my beloved flat New Mexico-style enchiladas, having suffered the same fate as the never-forgotten Banditos (removed from the menu a decade or more ago). The menu seems to shrink a bit every time. Still, the Panchos and Chicken Fajita Quesadillas remain and are worthy of a trip to this 40 year-old favorite.
DO NOT RECOMMEND FOR VEGETARIANS. THE VEGETARIAN OPTIONS HAVE CHICKEN IN THEM, IF YOU LOOK CAREFULLY.Very highly rated place for sure! I would highly not recommend this place for vegetarians. Though there are several vegetarian options available on the menu, you have to carefully look at every single bite to check if there is any chicken dropped into it by mistake.I ordered veggie fajitas and made sure I asked the server three times if they make it vegetarian without any chicken on/side on the veggies, which they agreed to and once I had it on the table, I could see a couple of chicken pieces and they accepted and apologized and got me another plate, which still had chicken in it.I spoke to the manager and she said, it is really hard to separate chicken from any vegetarian options, and said the only real vegetarian option that she can offer that is not "contaminated" from chicken is squash spaghetti.Since that is the only item I ordered, they could not take it off my tab, which I am okay with as I had other non "contaminated" items (may be).Overall, not a pleasant or happy experience. And if cross contamination of food isn't an issue, you can go there. But stay far away from this place, if you are a strict vegetarian.
Unexpected delicious food. Our server was amazing—I would definitely go back!
Often wonder if this is the original location because the food always tastes excellent. I got the hatch Chile steak burrito which was great and made even better with a side of boom boom sauce which is like a spicy queso sauce. Enchiladas , margaritas and the salsa are also great things to order here.
The queso is a meal unto itself. The tortilla’s are handmade and delicious! The chuychanga was crispy and with the boom-boom sauce made for a fantastic meal. Highly recommend! Food is superb. Service is friendly and attentive.
I've been dining at this Chuys since the 90s. On a vacation back to Austin, had to take the family here. Still the same vibe and layout as well as great staff and food. Very clean! Head here for a great meal and time!
Always love the food here! Great atmosphere and quality service.
This is the place to come if you're looking for TexMex when visiting Austin. I had the Chuychanga and it was delicious. Fun lively atmosphere. Always busy so plan accordingly
We were looking for some good Tex-Mex and Chuy's delivered. The place is a little rundown, but the food and service made up for it. We went early afternoon so it wasn't too busy, but I hear they get really busy at peak times. The salsa was very good, and even though I liked the chips I prefer a thicker chip. Our server was excellent and checked on us numerous times. The steak burrito meat was tender, and the green sauce covering the burrito was spicy but added great flavor. Recommended!
I didn't really enjoy the food there, but I have to said that is a great place to go for some drinks.
