Drove from San Antonio to eat at this place. I remembered it from along time ago as having really good seafood. However on this day the food definitely did not live up to what I remembered. I ordered the stuffed shrimp and a cup of gumbo. Gumbo was OK but could have been warmer it was little to cold for me taste like it had sat all day. The stuffed shrimp was a disappointment they tasted burnt or like they had been re-cooked, shrimp was so rubbery I could barely chew them. Once again they were cold. But I didn't complain just took them home and tossed them. The waitress was nice but was slow about bringing extras when asked if we needed anything. Never did receive the lemons...overall I don't think I will be making that drive again anytime soon.
A small restaurant in the shape of a boat. There is seating outside on a deck. The inside seating gets full fast and the wait is long when that happens. The food is good and the prices aren't too high for seafood prices. The tables always feel sticky though.
Very friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere! Prices were typical of what you'd see at a seafood restaurant and wasn't overpriced for the quality of food. Fish and shrimp were cooked perfectly and had great flavor to them, overall presentation was great, the only thing was the gumbo was dull and bland in flavor. Overall great place to go check out!
I ordered the alligator appetizer. For twelve dollars I got about twenty quarter sized pieces that were so over cooked I broke one of my teeth on it. I had the pick your own combo( I had shrimp and scallops) the scallops were good...the shrimp was so over cooked that they tasted more like shrimp jerky and the hush puppies were hard as a brick. I wouldn't recommend and will not be back.
We love all the appetizers like Diablos, cold shrimps, and oysters. Micheladas are great too and our favorite waiter Mike always provides good service
Very good! Just came in for a snack and a soda. Got the Cole slaw and order of hush puppies. Both very good! I think maybe they put a little sugar or maybe even pineapple in the slaw? It was excellent. Staff were friendly and masked. Would recommend!
First time eating at Capt.Benny's Seafood. The Shrimp and Fsh combo was excellent. The rice was reasonable. The service was greater, the restaurant atmosphere was pleasant and clean. God willing, we will visit the restaurant again on our next visit to Austin. I will highly recommend it to my family and friends in San Antonio, New Braunfels and San Marcos. We live in Wharton. Great choice!
Visited this place for the first time and only complaint I have was that the hush puppies were still cold/frozen when they served them to me. They were really nice about it and replaced them with some hot ones. It's a cute small spot. Not much seating inside. Bar seating style inside. One small TV. Not big on seafood but my friends seemed to enjoy the rest of the food.
So I was in Austin from out of town, visiting my dad, so we went to this place and let's just say.... I won't ever go back. The waitress (with the red hair) was not paying attention to our table at all, that was the first sign I just knew this wasn't going to be a good visit. It took forever for our waitress to ask what we wanted to eat, got the food and the calamari was like ice and maybe 10 actual pieces of food, the rest was crumbs. We also ordered fried alligator, that was fresh and good. My dad and I ordered the fried snapper and that was good but the breading was very hard, not appetizing, once I bit into the fish the breading was so hard that it cut the bottom of my mouth (on the inside). My dad and boyfriend got oysters on the half shell and said they weren't washed well because there was still little pieces of rock on the oyster, they're used to eating very fresh and clean oysters. Overall the visit was OKAY but was not good, I'm just used to better seafood, especially for paying over $150.
I have been going to this place, the Houston spot, for over 30yrs and they NEVER disappoint! The Austin location is just the same.. Fresh seafood, cold beer, good conversation… Thanks Captain Bennys!
