Great food and service. But very loud as there was a Happy Hour party and they seated us next to the event even though there was an empty dining room with seating further away.
I was expecting a more elevated ambiance but was a lot more casual than I anticipated. The food and service was excellent.
Steak was ordered medium rareâserved medium at best. Shrimp cocktail had 4 shrimp, not served on ice and with sauces so spicy they were inedibleâvery poor quality compared to an identically priced shrimp cocktail at an upscale steakhouse in Portland, OR just two days prior to this visit to ALC. That shrimp cocktail had more shrimp, larger shrimp, was served on ice and all placed on dry ice for a stunning presentation. Current ALC prices are not warranted by the food or presentation. The bread was the only part of the meal that was outstanding.

The charm of this favorite date night place dimmed a little when we encountered two tough steaks on our plates last night. My NY Strip was cooked correctly to order and started out on the narrow end as fairly tender, but as I worked my way up to the wider end it became tougher and had some gristle. My husband didnât even bother trying to eat the last half of his steak.
A wonderful old Austin spot for good steaks and a nice but not fussy experience. Service was very attentive at beginning of meal but waned towards the end.
