Very solid Tex-Mex experience. Corn tortillas available as well as flour, not as common as it should be in my opinion. My wife loves the shrimp cocktail! Solid fajitas, street tacos, burritos. Side dishes are great, rice and beans are not the generic glop you get too often at even upscale Tex-Mex places. House salsa is a bit milder than my preference, but wonderful flavor.Service has generally been solid in my experience, friendly and attentive. Ambience is outstanding, some very unique decor here. Outdoor seating is available, very handy if you're there on one of the three or four nice days we get every year in North Texas. Recommended for couples and families looking for a pleasant meal in enjoyable surroundings without paying an arm and a leg.
Cool atmosphere and good service. The food was just okay. Chicken enchilada was spiced well, but the meat has the same consistency as canned chicken, which is mealy. The beef enchilada wasn't very good. Rice and beans were decent. I was honestly rather disappointed and probably won't be back.
Excellent food and friendly waitresses! However I’m only giving this two stars because I was very disappointed today. I have been coming here for years and have never had a problem until now. My parents and I came to eat a late lunch and were excited to come to one of our favorite spots. As I walked through the door I was immediately greeted by a rude employee who said “she can’t be in here”…referring to my service dog…in a labeled service dog harness. I thought I had misheard her. I assumed she said something like “can I pet her” because I wasn’t fully paying attention and it wasn’t very clear English. So I said “yes you may”. She then said again “no I said she can’t be in here”. To which I said “why can my service dog not come in here?” She then flustered and said “well yes if she is a service dog she can come in”. I said “yes she can” and proceeded to step away towards our waitress. She then crouched down and baby talked her which completely confused my dog who is supposed to be paying attention to me and being well behaved. I think everyone knows you are supposed to ignore service dogs. I’m not sure if she only did that because I thought she had previously asked to pet her. But getting all up in her face making sounds was not what I meant. I’m surprised that a restaurant being in business for so long would have acted so unprofessionally. She then would stare at her every time she passed the table and me making me feel very uncomfortable. Disappointed in my experience today and probably won’t be back for a while.
The memorabilia and the atmosphere was a great place for date night the location. had a lot of pictures and a lot of wonderful paintings of John Wayne
We arrived with a group of six and were told we had to wait ten minutes due to short staff. After waiting fifteen minutes, and watching them seat a group of three and two groups of two, we were told it would be another ten minutes. Plenty of empty tables and it makes no sense how three tables would be easier to serve than one table of six. When our group decided to leave, we were told we could be seated immediately. We took our group down the road and spent our $200 on food and drinks at another independent Mexican restaurant.
This is such great neighborhood gem! The food is always fresh and the environment is warm and inviting. When we visited on a weekday, the place was full. That says alot for an out-of-the-way non-chain restaurant on a Wednesday! We love their light and crispy chips with the warm salsa. Chicken flautas are large and packed with stewed chicken....so flavorful! Combo plates are well proportioned and everything is seasoned just right. They have a great bar with a full selection of specialty margaritas. We hope El Gabacho is around for many years to come!
First-time visit gave is a mixed review. Drinks were OK and food was good to OK. May or may not go back.
A favorite spot in the Pantego/Arlington area, El Gabacho has great queso, chips, and tacos al carbon. Not the best Mexican food I've ever had, but a great local option that is very consistent.
Love this place! This restaurant is really big, looks like they have a few different dining rooms. The decor is very cool if you like "The Duke" and who doesn't like John Wayne (rhetorical question). The staff is very friendly and attentive. You are never going to have an empty glass, just an empty plate. There is also cool outside seating for this wonderful Texas weather. I like to come here and have lunch with my dad when I'm on this side of town. It's just a good place to eat or ? drink, if that your thing. Happy dining!
Good value at lunch. They were really short staffed on the last lunch visit so service was slow. Not really their fault. Only real complaint was the chips were basically tiny pieces instead of whole chips. But it's definitely in the lunch rotation.
