The tenders were like little nuggets, the banana pudding tasted really awful and we super stale! All the food tasted old and stale. But the banana pudding specifically, was really gross and I love banana pudding and had different kinds of it. Wouldn't recommend. The tenders come with a 7 piece and they are so tiny each it's so not worth the $19 per plate price tag. Mine came with only 5 (see picture) the chicken fried steak is beside it and its another $19 seperately so yes those 5 little tenders is a $19 meal by itself. Can't believe I spent $40+ here for to-go and majority of it went in the trash.I tried calling the restaurant to speak to the manager but all they offer was for me to drive all the way back out there to remake my chicken tenders but it honestly not worth the gas/mileage to even do that.
This place is fun to take special guests, family style dinner. Not a fan of Kentucky Wonder green beans but overall the veggies and meat choices were point on!!
Mmmmmmazing! Best chicken I've had in a while. Also a treat to see sorghum and butter on the table. That touch reminded me of growing up and my mother mixing butter and sorghum together to spread on her biscuits. Each location is a tad different as this one offers 5 meat and several sides, including green beans. Ordering is simple, choose a meat and you get everything else served family style...and as much as you want of each side. The interior reminds me of a downtown along route 66 with facades of general stores, a motor lodge, service station and a church built out from the walls. Get there early, there will be a line...but it's worthbit.
The chicken fried steak and the vegetables were wonderful! We ordered one of each dessert and they all were very good! Our server was very nice and provided prompt service, despite being short staffed. Management very friendly. Would highly recommend this place for traditional Texas food!
OVERALL: The meat is good and there are some gluten free options, but Babe's has some odd To-Go policies, the sides are not worth it, odd hours like how they close at 2 PM but reopen again at 5 PM on weekdays, and they have no delivery.DINE-IN: Ate there alone the first time but I felt rushed as a single guest so I only get takeout now; perhaps they are more used to larger parties.TAKEOUT: Their takeout is pretty good as long as you order in advance. Unfortunately, you can't order online, only in person or on the phone.GLUTEN FREE: I'm glad they have gluten free options like the fried catfish and the smoked chicken,as well as all the sides, except the biscuits and gravy. Unfortunately, I'm not sure about any of the sauces being gluten free and, I know for a fact that, all their desserts are not gluten free either.PRICES & QUALITY: I usually end up spending $20 and some change here. I usually get the fried catfish takeout without any of the sides because I don't think the sides are worth the price.TO-GO: Be sure to try and finish as much of the sides as you can because taking anything to go other than the meat you have ordered is not allowed, it's kind of ridiculous. If you don't finish your meat they will let you put it in a flimsy plastic bag, not even a real To-Go Box. Basically getting anything To-Go is not worth it and, for convenience purposes, get takeout instead if, you want to take any food home.ODD HOURS: For some reason, Babe's chicken has weekday hours are 11 AM - 2 PM, close, and then reopen from 5 PM - 9 PM, but on weekend days it's 11 AM - 9 PM with not closing in the middle of the day like on a weekday. It's very odd and inconvenient.
The biscuits and Dr Pepper were the best a star for each. I was told this place was so good! Maybe it is but not this location. The honey didn’t even taste like real honey… Seems like they tried to make southern style green beans but ended up burning them. The corn tasted like it was straight from the can with milk and butter. The mashed potatoes tasted instant with pepper. However, the staff was nice.
I go to the Arlington music theater frequently. I always have dinner at babes prior to the show. I love babes chicken fried steak and chicken tenders. The veggies are good but they almost always burn the green beans. For the most part the wait staff is friendly and provides good service. I love their biscuits they’re better than grandma used to make. sometimes the food is a little too salty, other times it’s just right.
The chicken was really good and the catfish was excellent. The staff was friendly. We had a good experience. Oh and I have to say that this place does banana pudding right!
The food and experience were all run-of-the-mill. The service was pretty unremarkable. This is what I would have expected from a Chuck E. Cheese, but at a higher price.
Three of us went to Babes Chicken Dinner after a long day at the golf course. We were seated within 5 minutes after arriving. We each ordered something different. Chicken strips, Catfish, and Chicken Fried Steak. The salad, biscuits, green beans, corn, mash potatoes, and gravy were some of the very best I have ever eaten. I would give it a higher rating if I could.
