We knew we would be traveling through Amarillo on our cross country road trip and quickly decided that we needed to check out Tyler's after reading the reviews. We arrived about 4:30pm on a Thursday afternoon. We smelled delicious barbecue as soon as we stepped inside. There are many awards and assorted swag (lots of Tyler's t-shirts in assorted colors and sizes, hats, stickers and bottled barbecue sauce) lining the walls of the line to order. The menu boards are clear and easy to read and include lots of meat combination options, sides and desserts. My wife decided on the 1/2 rack of ribs and the bread pudding (she didn't want to fill up on sides and not get the chance to try the bread pudding). I ordered the #2 two meat sandwich with pulled pork and regular sausage. I chose the green beans for my side. The employees were friendly and helpful as they assembled our platters. We also thought the prices were very reasonable. We took our platters to a table and grabbed utensils and a bottle of each of the barbecue sauces. My wife agreed with other reviewers that the ribs were "fall of the bone" and delicious. She really liked the regular barbecue sauce as well. I thought the sausage was delicious and also enjoyed the pulled pork and green beans. My wife loved the bread pudding and was half tempted to order another helping for later. Overall, this was a great experience and we would highly recommend to other fellow barbecue lovers!
Well not a fan. People and staff were friendly and professional, place was clean and inviting , no issues there. I thought the meat was tender HOWEVER, it was tasteless, no seasoning or flavor. To me good BBQ doesnt need sauce . This Bbq needed sauce and it left kind of an charcoal fluid after taste in my mouth. Maybe it was the cook on this day. I had ribs and brisket. The coleslaw was delicious but the bbq beans were just well cooked pinto beans with a mild bbq flavor seasoning ,not a fan. BBQ acceptance varies by person and area of country so not saying horrible but not MY kind of BBQ.
We were greeted warmly upon entering on a late Thursday afternoon. I was informed that the turkey was nearly out, so I ordered it and they added some pulled pork. The jalapeno creamed corn was particularly good. Watch your order being cut and served; walk to your table; pickup BBQ sauce, soft drink/tea, and utensils. Plenty of free parking.
Top notch BBQ and friendly Amarillo service to match! If you’re a BBQ connoisseur out to try one of the countries best, or just a regular lover of smoked meats and great sides, you have to swing by and pay Tyler a visit. Absolutely nailed the right level of smoke with a good moisture content for the meat. This place respects the art of BBQ but maintains a casual Texas vibe. I picked up a two meat plate with brisket and ribs. These were seriously the best ribs I’ve had in the last 10 years! Great BBQ sauce to complement too. The spicy one also had a nice balance of heat without being overwhelming. Potato salad and green beans for the sides, and they did not disappoint at all. The portion sizes were excellent. Tyler even came by to chat with us at the table. He said proceeds from lunch that day were going to a nice cause supporting a rougher neighborhood in Amarillo. He seemed like a really genuine dude, and he made us feel welcome. There’s a big intangible I’m always searching for when I eat at “local” spots, you can’t make it up in good restaurants, it comes from the soul of cooking and from investment and pride in your community. Tyler’s got it in quantities fitting for a state like Texas.
We both had the brisket sandwich special, chopped brisket on small hamburger bun, side, and drink for $11.95. The brisket was good but we both left hungry.
Stopped here for lunch on our way to see Cadillac Ranch! It’s nice that they allow dogs on their patio, but it is a bit windy, so we ate in the car :) The food was delicious! I had the dinner brisket plate with potato salad and green beans. The brisket was AMAZING! So tender and perfect. My husband had the brisket sandwich with a side of beans. He reports that the sandwich was great! Friendly staff!
Made a trip from WI and had Tyler’s as the #1 spot to eat. Was not disappointed and enjoyed it thoroughly! Our brisket was cut from a whole roast straight from the warmer. Excellent aroma, taste and fall apart in your mouth! Turkey, pork, and sausage are all phenomenal. Tyler took a few minutes to chat and the front line staff were very friendly. Bought the t-shirt and look forward to my next visit. This is Texas BBQ!!!
Stopped in on a Tuesday lunch with a group of co workers.I had the 2 meat plate... I got ribs and brisket, that comes with 2 sides and texas toast. They slice and plate the food right in front of you, which is served on a half cookie sheet covered in wax paper. The food was great, the ribs were better than some other places in Amarillo that are "famous for ribs." The staff were extremely polite and professional... they checked on is several times. The prices were a little high but probably worth it.I would eat here again given the opportunity...
Loved it. Affordable, super friendly, and the chili cheese sausage was on point. Even got to meet the wonderful owner Tyler
We had an early dinner here after visiting the Palo Duro state Park. If you are looking for an upscale dining experience then you need to keep looking. This is a BBQ good ole boy diner where you stand in line, place your order, they cut the meat right in front of you, scoop it onto a metal tray, no plates, and you pay at the register before sitting down. We each got the 2 meat dinner plate special that comes with 2 sides so that we could try a variety. We got brisket, chicken, pulled pork, and a spicy sausage. For the sides we got jalapeno cream corn, potato salad, pinto beans, and cole slaw and it came with Texas toast. BBQ sauce was not on anything. You grabbed a bottle of sauce on the way to your table. The food was good, the. BBQ sauce was AMAZING! That being said, we are just not big fans of naked BBQ, but it seems most people are so we would recommend.
