Sunrise is just absolutely excellent, especially for an ethnic restaurant in Abilene, TX. Most of the restaurants in Abilene change their recipes & menus so the bland food grubbing "What's that?!?", meat & taters & beans eating customers that eat out here will buy. "These vegetable ain't cooked to mush yet). And hey, I'm an old Southern Redneck, but I'm also a old chubby foodie. I like my food to taste exotic. You know - spices & herbs? Technique. That's why I go to Asian ( including Indian, Filipino, Thai, etc.),Hispanic and any other restaurant I can fid around here that's not extremely "Americanized" ( aka - taken out all the non-familiar ingredients and made everything mashed potato bland). The nice people at Sunrise with just a little explanation & encouragement will actually add enough chili pepper heat to be impressive. I know because I do it. I always heard tales of Texans & hot chili. Tales. Tall tales. But even if you are NOT trying to off yourself with General Tso's Chicken 10 chilies spicy ( which comes mild by default), everything from the appetizers to entrees at Sunrise are the best Asian I've had in town and I've been here since 1985. And "Foodie" - I search hard & heavy for Mom & Pop independently owned restaurants like Sunrise run by people that know how to cook like it's supposed to be done. Scared? Go for the Beef & Broccoli. Otherwise - expand your horizons. We have never had an issue with any meal or food item. The owners/staff are nothing but friendly & helpful. They WANT you to enjoy your meal. They want you to be happy & come back & spread the word of how good Sunrise is.
Came in on Easter Sunday 2022 with my Wife and Mother. My Mother and I got the Happy Family plate. And My Wife got Vegetable Fried Rice and Egg Drop Soup. The Happy Family plate was so good! Ithad Shrimp, Pork, Lobster Meat, Baby Carrots etc. with a delicious sauce! My Wife thoroughly enjoyed the Egg Drop Soup! She also said that her Fried Rice was terrific. Our Waitress was very sweet!We will visit again.Edit: I forget to mention that the Restaurant is beautiful inside. It has been upgraded since the last time I was there, when a different owner/business ran the building. It was beautifully decorated and peaceful. It was exceptionally clean!!! We had a great dinner.
The fried pot stickers alone are worth coming here for. Unfortunately the sweet & sour chicken was bland with very little sauce. Cheese wonton were sweet & yummy. Very nice people and clean dining.
This is a 4+ or 5-. Not the best Chinese food I've ever had but is good and price is agreeable.
A wonderful place to eat. The atmosphere and the food is the most like what I experienced when I taught in China. The food is very fresh and authentic.
Chose this dump based on positive reviews. Spent $100 on take-out and tipped $20 hoping for the best. The food was terrible and half went in the garbage. This was for a Christmas party. At first everyone pretended it was good then we ordered pizza instead. Thanks Sunrise!
Ordered on christmas day so i was grateful they were open at all but I ordered the sesame chicken and the container was about 60% chicken and 30% broccoli even though the description didn’t say it would come with broccoli. Also when ordering off the chef special menu it states it will come with white rice but it did not, it was fried rice which was super disappointing. Chicken was also very chewy and tasted like it had been left out a while.
Oliver is the man! Blessed us with some fire Chinese food. When you grow up eating Chinese food in San Fran, Texas cannot compare. However, Oliver managed to get pretty damn close! Coming back Sunrise every time now!
Oliver is fabulous! He offers a great choices on the menu! Food is fresh and delicious!
