I’m from GA and where I come from there are a lot of hole in the wall bbq places that are amazing. I was impressed with Betty Rose’s. I ordered ribs, pulled pork, and their famous brisket along with potato salad and green beans. The meat was juicy and that’s not always easy to do with bbq and brisket especially. Kudos! Also the elevated margarita hit the spot.
My family traveled over 90 miles to take me to enjoy Mother’s Day lunch at this establishment. Upon entering great look, pleasant smell and great waitress. But sadly the food wasn’t as great. The food seemed processed and not real bbq. The brisket, ribs were okay however no smoky flavor, smells taste or smell seem to be oven cooked. We did not see a pit going and the turkey, ham seemed super processed almost out of can texture. My apologies but this is honestly the closest way to describe it. The chicken was bagged grilled chicken strips that were dried out not even baked chicken that was the breaking point for us. This was not bbq I am sorry. I felt awful for waitress since she could tell while we left her a nice tip and we stayed gracious we were very much less than satisfied. I love to leave positive reviews for businesses however this time I was not able to do that and I hope this feedback is received well while I am sure hard to hear. I believe it is important to at least look into better ways to improve for future customers.
Mass confusion from walking in the door, rude staff total waste of time save yourself the BS
I'm bummed to leave this review. First of all, our service was awesome and the brisket was legitimately good. However, nothing else was good - not even the easy stuff. The pinto beans were under-seasoned, the Cole slaw was pretty much the taste and consistency of a wet napkin, our ribs were almost cold, chewy, and the rub was just overwhelmingly black pepper. The pulled pork was also pretty cold. The smoked sausage was good enough, but it was supposed to be cheese jalapeno and you could taste neither. The table BBQ sauce was meh and the hot BBQ sauce was as well. The banana pudding was as good as anything you'd get in a plastic cup at the grocery store. I'll also note that they weren't busy, so it's not like they were slammed and sent out stuff that had lost it's warmth.If you just want to go get a couple of lbs of brisket to bring home, this is probably a good go to.
You cant go wrong with the 2 meat plate. You get brisket, sausage, spud potatoes and jalapeño corn.. or your choice...and cant forget the corn bread.. Our server Cindy was the best. Very personable . This has become a regular stop for my family.
When from out of town, ask a local cop... "if you were to take a luck break right now, had a tast for BBQ... where would your go?"This was his recommendation and he wasn't wrong. Some of the best brisket and dry rub ribs I have had in a long time.Definitely stopping back by here when we are back in town!!
Was hoping we found a good BBQ place here in Abilene. This is not it. The brisket had no flavor and basically was like eating a bland piece of roast. It did not resemble brisket at all. The sausage had NO taste at all. The potato salad, again, had no taste and was like eating cold, creamy mashed potatoes. Most potato salad has chunks of potatoes...not theirs. Way over priced for the quality of the food. The only reason I gave them 2 stars was the place itself was very nice. That is all I can say good about it.
Great place , Owner talked to us personally and made sure we were taken care of!. I’ll be back.
My husband and I absolutely love Betty Rose’s! It quickly became our favorite restaurant since moving to Abilene. We always have great service and great food. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a family friendly restaurant with great bbq!
Food and service was great. Had a problem with the sides. Sandwich was great. Side portions were tiny. Fries maybe 7, beans three spoon full and corn bread two small bits. Beer super cold. I will go back.
