May 29, 2022 visit-We ordered 3 breakfast meals (14.99 and 12.99) and (bottled) water AND asked for onions to be added to my eggs. The owner said no to the onions, that would take to long , they have a system PLUS, EVERYTHING is cooked fresh. The total was 53$. No biggie. (But we took the bottled water off.) New total 45$. Meal arrived - instant grits, the hash brown was like the ones from McDonald’s, the sausage was the Jimmy dean the eggs were unseasoned and scrabbled hard, the bacon almost burnt, the only decent item on the plates were the pancakes. The server that brought the food asked if we needed anything (after we saw him bring another table something). We initially said no. But HE offered a cup of water from the fountain. Then went to get it and returned EMPTY handed. And said the OWNER told him we couldn’t get any water unless we paid for it. He stated the cups aren’t free. At the end of the meal I asked Mr. Moore why. He said “I’ve been in business 52years” (I told him I was dissatisfied with the service and wouldn’t return) … “folks pay the white man” (we paid 45$ for breakfast)… “I don’t give discounts” (we didn’t ask for a discount - mom 68, one daughter Desert Storm Vet, other daughter still serving Army) … “what are we talking about” - mr. Moore was very rude and obnoxious. I was sad I had recommended we “support” the establishment. Inputs of all the issues (flies, dirty counters, sticky floors etc) I saw PRIOR to ordering AND I’m disappointed that someone who claims to have marched with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr would treat patrons to his establishment in that manner. If I could rate “NO STARS” I would.
I wish there was a negative star because the owner was horrible and rude. The menu clearly shows that chitterlings cost $12.99 but when I asked how much a bowl of chitterlings cost he up the price to $21 for a bowl and $25 for a dinner. I replied to him the menu shows the cost is $12.99, his reply was that the menu is 10 years old so I said well you need to update it to reflect current prices. My comment upset him and he started cussing at me about how he don't need to do nothing since he's been running his business for 60 years, I left without responding to his attitude and as I was leaving another customer who was waiting for his food said that he ordered one breakfast special and paid and another customer behind him order 2 breakfast specials and the owner charged him the same price for 1 special. I wanted to support this black business but not when they are operating a shady business and overcharging customers!
I was sure the guy adding up our breakfast cost was making it up. Horrible service. Greasy to the point of gross food. We will never go back. Memphis needs a McDonalds and other restaurants downtown really bad.
Prices were not transparent and ended up being far higher than I expected based on reviews. Food was cooked to order, which seems unnecessary given their limited breakfast menu. It may work better later in the day if the menu is more expensive. It took an hour for them to fully serve our group. I thought that the food was fine, but the teenagers in our group were much less enthusiastic.
This is a Gem that’s some what hidden from the hustle and bustle of S Main. I had the best breakfast from here! I actually got full and it all tasted so fresh… because it was fresh. The service was amazing. They were friendly from the time I walked in until I left. This is a great place to get southern grandmothers country cooking! It’s amazing!
My husband and I visit Memphis when we decided to try this restaurant. 1st the hospitality is AMAZING!! Mr. Willie was the nicest man and the food was beyond good!! EVERYTHING was amazing!! My husband also ordered breakfast and loved EVERYTHING as well!!! This is a MUST visit!! We plan on going back for sure!!!
Revisiting a new place for me, Willie Moore has homemade food. I ate the delicious smothered chicken and pinto beans. ? Prices are very reasonable.
I am very upset! it’s February 1,2022 I am a Frequent customer always giving this restaurant my business trying to support black restaurants!! I ordered the smothered chicken meal and usually a drink comes with the meal . I asked for a drink he completely went off talking crazy talking to me like a was a person on the streets instead of a customer! Talking about he giving his drinks away if he gives me one! I wanted to really go off on him badly but I am going to let the Lord deal with him! I will NEVER go back to that restaurant EVER! Mr. Willie Moore( owner) needs to retire and give the Business to his son who is nice and knows how to run a Business! People are human being and not animals
This place is delicious. If I'm anywhere near downtown this is where I go for food. I haven't had anything that was bad and my favorite meal there is their smothered pork chops. Everyone is always friendly as well.
Not a good experience today. I visit this restaurant frequently and often bring someone else along to try the food. My mother in law ordered a fish plate and side of chitterlings. Once at the register she asked how much was her food. The owner got smart with her and was quite obnoxious. His reply, we in the business to make money. Customer service was not a priority today so we will not be returning.
